We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesse, what should our readers know about your business?
Our story as a team and business has continuously evolved. I started my career path as an assistant for a high-performing agent almost nine years ago and it has been a long journey. Aside from wonderful mentors, I owe a lot of the progress and success to tenacity and grit. Building and nurturing relationships throughout my earlier days lead to taking the leap of faith to start J+ Group. Focusing on the same principles and aligning myself with people with the same mindset we’ve grown to be a dynamic, diverse team of entrepreneurial agents striving to continuously break records and achieve year over year growth. Our team motto is Dedicated to Doing More, and we truly embody that by going above and beyond the typical role of an agent. We put ourselves in the client’s position by working together to accomplish their goals during the deal, after closing, and through investment management and repositioning.

Something I think a lot of real estate professionals forget (and it can be easy to do so in a market like South Florida) is that many investment purchases small or large typically take a lot longer to plan for than agents have patience for. Some relationships with buyers or sellers of investment properties take years to nurture. Maybe we’re dealing with a client getting ready to spend all their savings on their first investment property, other times it is a national investment group with thousands of units. In either case, we usually start with their vision of a bigger picture investment then drill down locally which requires a lot of intimate client interaction and guidance.

Since J+ Group has excelled at building long-term relationships, we identified that our clients had a critical need for guidance on managing their properties, the guidance they could truly trust. Miami is not an easy city to navigate without local boots on the ground. After so many requests, I decided that this was an add-on service I had to stop ignoring. I wanted to do more for my clients and I knew I could bring more to the table.

My success has always been built on being dedicated to doing more than anyone else would.

Offering Property Management allows us to continue serving our clients long past closing day. We actively know the data for our sub-markets which gives us that inside value, as we advise clients on new acquisitions.

Now in 2022, we have added Project Management to the reLEASE Miami services with full renovations and remodeling. We are currently embarking on our first ground-up multifamily construction management project. I foresee expanding into design services soon. I really enjoy collaborating on that side of the work. It’s fun but also serves a very distinct purpose, whether it’s purely about the style an owner is trying to achieve or following trends and features to maximize profits. In some form, design plays a role in every investment.

Do you have a budget? how do you think about personal finances?
I do work with a budget that constantly evolves based on profit metrics for both of my businesses. Starting your own business, especially in Real Estate can be lucrative and provide windfalls of short-lived success. To withstand the test of time and volatility budgeting and allocating profits back into the company are crucial. I work on a self-created model using percentages of profits that I put back into resources that will contribute to sustainable growth. Balancing personal finances or lifestyle spending can be challenging as I also do strongly believe that money is a mindset, and to attract financial growth, you should put yourself into a state of mind that also attracts money, which can yield greater returns. The age-old saying, “it takes money to make money” rings true in many senses, creating an environment that stimulates a motivated mindset is just as important as budgeting for expenses tied to measurable growth like marketing, business development, new software & tools.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my parents and a free-spirited neighbor from my childhood! I’m a product of a hard-working family and was always being creative to advance myself. Starting my own lawn-mowing business and selling newspaper subscriptions when I was 11 ignited that entrepreneurial spirit. I didn’t come from money, but my parents never let that hold me back and always gave me the freedom to explore, to grow without a limiting mindset. They also helped me pursue all my crazy ideas including many invention attempts and businesses. I made my way and they have always encouraged me to trust my instinct and be courageous with grit to get what I want.

We had a neighbor growing up who used to talk to her plants, dance in the rain, and always ask to use my computer to look up astrological charts. While my parents didn’t quite understand, she became one of my best friends and instilled a completely different POV on life than I was used to growing up in conservative northern Idaho. She always provided positive insight to guide me through trials of growing up that have stuck with me to this day. She moved away and I’ve never been able to reconnect as an adult, I wish I could find her. I’ll never forget one moment that affected my motivation when she referenced that quote “The only guarantee in life, is change.” The impact of that statement switched my mindset to turn negatives into opportunity, and the drive to constantly evolve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Right now I love driving through neighborhoods and finding the “core” of its identity. You can ask all my friends who visit, I enjoy taking them on neighborhood tours and we usually stop by places I’ve never even been to. Discovering somewhere I’ve never been at least once a week is one of my favorite pastimes. Since I’ve been focused on more business in the Little Haiti and Little River neighborhoods, I’m a loyal lunch customer at The Plantisserie Plant-Based Deli and Cindy-Lou’s Cookies. If I was going for a night out I’d start with dinner at Bellini rooftop restaurant in Coconut Grove and then head out to the casino to try my luck at Black Jack.
