We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennah Lear and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennah, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success, or anyone that is going after something bigger, is vision. I truly believe that our vision + big dream is divinely gifted to us and I like to tell my clients: “I can teach strategy all day long, but I can’t teach vision. That has to come from you and your heart first.

My two cents: dream bigger than your comfortability level.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I was in my 4th year in corporate when I had “the” moment, I’ll never forget it….it wasn’t a special day, like all the others, sitting in the cube farm, surrounded by polyester walls and feeling like: “this is so not what I hustled my way through college for.” I remember taking yet another jaunt to the break room for a pepsi (my go to vice), and thinking: there’s something missing here.

When I got back to my desk, I started surfing some blogs I followed and found an advertisement for a program called “Boss School”. I know now, I totally manifested it! I had always thought about going back to school for business, but stopped at the harsh reality that I never paid off my first set of loans so I probably shouldn’t do it. This program…it was the answer to everything I wanted at the moment: a 90-day bootcamp to teach women how to become entrepreneurs and break free from their 9 to 5. That was the catalyst to it all. Before the program, and through all my schooling, I knew I was always meant to do bigger things, help in a bigger way; I just didn’t know how. So learning business, self-development, and what I was truly able to create; I knew my time at corporate wouldn’t last much longer. Long story short, I stepped out of my job (which is the nice way to say, I went into my boss’s office and asked for higher compensation (after a year of doing 2 jobs at the price of 1), and was told “you’re not worth that.”). I’ll never forget walking out of those blue doors with a smile on my face because I was on my way to building something so much bigger.

It was far from easy. But I knew this path was no longer the one I wanted and I wasn’t willing to just accept it anymore.

Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way….

• Work on your mindset as you build your business so you can learn to trust yourself as you make bigger decisions.
• Risk is apart of the journey; bet on YOU every time. You’ll win some and you’ll learn others.
• Do the work to connect in deeper beyond the product or service you sell; you may have a movement on your hands.
• Set firm boundaries sooner rather than later, so your business supports YOU; not the other way around.
• Buy the ticket, take the trip, say yes to the retreat; this is where the unplanned magic of running your own business truly comes to light.
• There’s always a way. Believe this in your bones and you will always hit your goals.

If there’s one last thing I’d want the world to know about story and brand I’ve built, it’s this:

I believe building a brand is the key to playing bigger in your business and it’s one of the most powerful pieces to success. It’s in your brand that you have the power to position yourself as the expert, attract dreamy clients + opportunities, and create a bigger impact. Take the time to dive deep into what you stand for and if you choose to lead with your heart, the money will follow.

That’s what my journey has proven time and time again and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends visit Cleveland, Ohio I always take them to Barrio; a local taco and tex mex go-to. Cleveland has a great foodies scene and depending on the season, there’s always something new or tried and true. During the summer, Edgewater Beach is a hot spot and truly beautiful for a city with a lake vs. an ocean. And last, but not least – my favorite is to catch a concert or a Cavaliers game. There’s so much to do in the city! I can’t name it all, but I love Cleveland and more times than not – all my friends that visit do to.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout to my business coach Amy Yamada! She’s a powerful leader who teaches leading with your heart for more impact + income; I think we need more women leaders like that.

“Thank you for seeing me, believing in me, and showing me what’s possible.”
