We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karina, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One key to our success is to have real conversations about our struggles. Being a parent to a child with a disability is an emotional roller coaster that not anyone can understand. Speak to parents like us and in both languages (English and Spanish) helps us connect with our deepest feelings and keep us motivated to help our kids to achieve all their potential

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an IT director in a manufacturing company. Juggling with a professional career while being a mother of two, a wife, a daughter is my main focus. I cannot be perfect in all aspects of my life, and I had to accept that while striving to be my best self. We have made so much progress; we cannot stop thinking about what else can we do to help our daughter or to help others in her condition. We started @TanaPlace with that intention. To help and be helped. Share what we have learned and learn from other experiences.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God. At the beginning of our journey, we were upset at him as we thought we didn’t deserve this.

Then, we realized he had saved my daughter’s life.

My husband.
He simply rolled up his sleeves one day and started to learn how to provide my daughter with “therapy”. He asked questions to therapist, providers and went to trainings to allow my daughter to have access to therapies when times were challenging in terms of money.
