We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvana better known as Thee Mademoiselle & owner of the business Media Hustle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since childhood, I wanted to work for myself and be the force behind my own growth, power, and success. I never liked the idea of working for other people. I also always loved the arts, and media and was a natural creative.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a different type of creator because I say what’s on my mind regardless of what the repercussions are. I’m known for saying what everyone else wants to say, but is afraid to say–and won’t. I got where I am by being outspoken, consistent, and most importantly being in competition with no one but myself. I don’t go based on other people and what they’re doing or what other people may do next to get ahead, I’m always worried about being a better me.

It was very hard to get where I am because I had to sacrifice a lot of time, money, fun, and relationships to get where I am. To be a Social Media Influencer, Business owner, or do anything that requires you to be self-sufficient you will have to sacrifice your current lifestyle to make way for the new one that you want. There will be no more partying every week, spending frivolously, or procrastinating if you want to make it to a certain level. I overcame all of this by cutting off distractions as they came,

The lessons I’ve learned along the way have been:

If you don’t have a clear plan don’t go around announcing what you’re going to do until you actually DO IT.

You don’t need support to start working on your goals. People don’t owe you support.

Always stick to whatever the end goal is even when things get hard and feel impossible.

Anything can happen at any stage of your journey both horrible or incredible whether you’re just starting or have been in the game for over 10 years.

Anything is possible and anything can happen.

Always save for financial pitfalls.

I want everyone to know that I am the type of creator that will never stop being a boss. I feel like being a creator and owning a business is something I was born to do and helping others do the same is part of my destiny.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are a lot of people that have contributed to my success. My parents did not support my creative path but never pushed me away from it either, they let me make my own choices which I appreciated. Unlike most Haitian parents, they never forced me to be a nurse or lawyer (although they suggested it) , likewise, they weren’t very supportive of my true passions.

I had a lot of mentors growing up who did foster my creative talents even though my parents did not. Some of the most influential were my teachers whom I like to refer to as educators and secondary parental figures. Stacy Ann Barker, Patricia Aponte, Melissa Saporito & Desmond Sugar whom were all educators and mentors I had from middle school to high school that took extra time after school to help me and my friends with extracurricular activities like singing and dancing, casting me in various talent shows, plays, and other performances helping me hone in on my performing skills.

If it weren’t for them I wouldn’t be who I am today. There were way more people but these were the people who had the biggest impact who I will never forget.
