We had the good fortune of connecting with Philip Blystone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Philip, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I first started my business my goal was to help as many young players as possible both on and off the field. I knew it was very expensive for kids to get personal training/coaching so I would always let local kids in the area train with me. I didn’t charge anyone for several years until people offered to pay me for my services. I then picked up a camera and started to film and take photos of everything I did at the field, which helped my page grow on all my social media platforms. My goal for my business was to help kids improve on the field and help them play at the highest level possible.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My goal is to provide kids of all age groups personalized soccer trainings based off their goals. What I do that separates me from other trainers is that I film sessions so that my clients can watch over on what they did wrong and right. I’ve always been a visual learner growing up and I felt like people who can see themselves performing certain movements will have a better understanding of what they are doing. What I’m most proud about is the progress of my clients both on and off the field. I really try to teach anyone who comes out to the trainings to be supportive and kind to others. Another thing I engrave into my clients is to have fun, while working hard. Too many coaches and trainers push their clients so hard and take the fun out of the sport so many people fall in love with, which is something I try to avoid. I try to push my clients past their limits, but I always try to make the sessions fun so they can remember why they love the sport. Getting the business to where it is today has been difficult for sure. I’m still far from being successful, but it’s all just a mindset. This one influencer I follow Nick Bare, he says “Consistency compounds” and that is something I has been stuck in my head for the past couple of years, which has helped me grow my brand. A lesson I learned along the way of starting my business is being patient. I expected immediate growth once I started, but it took years to where I got my business today and I’m still learning. What I want the world to know about my brand is that everyday is great day to get better!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If one of my good friends where to visit I would take them around the Virginia and DC area. On Monday I would take them to The St. James to get a great workout at their 450,000 sq.ft complex with full size soccer field, 3 floor gym, olympic sized swimming pool, and eat lunch at vim & victor restaurant in the complex for a post workout meal. At night for dinner I would go to Iron Age located in Annandale, VA to eat Korean barbecue, which is by far one of the best places to eat for the price. The next day I would go on a run through the trails at Wakefield Park, which would perfect to build an appetite to get brunch at First Watch in Fairfax, VA known for their delicious breakfast. After Brunch I would take my friend to go Ice Skating at the Fairfax Ice Arena to burn off some calories. Later that night we would go to Bowlero in Annandale, VA where they offer food and drinks while bowling. The next day we would meet up with Brother Faris, who is one of the most elite athletes in the country to grab a morning workout. After that I would head to DC to go bike riding to see the monuments, which is really nice during the cherry blossom season. For dinner we will head to Maggiano’s to grab the fettuccine alfredo, which is my favorite plate there. For sure the best places for athletes to visit here is The St. James, National Mall in DC, and local parks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank all the people that came out to my trainings throughout the past couple of years. Also, would love to thank Coach Paul, who is the coach that developed me into the player I am today. Of course my family and girlfriend for all the support of the growth of my business.
