We had the good fortune of connecting with Jannine Krause and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jannine, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
As a young doctor I slept on average 3-4 hours a night and pulled 14-16 hour days 5-6 days a week while working to build my practice. Over the last 15 years of practice I’ve slowly reduced my work hours and yet sleep was always a struggle for me. It wasn’t until the last year that I truly learned the importance of work and life balance. I know I was addicted to stress and thrived off of it for many years. Sadly, it took battling with paralyzing anxiety attacks and bouts of insomnia to get me to wake up and put myself first.

I’m now taking 2 breaks during the day, sitting down to eat all my meals and planning fun outings weekly for myself. All things I couldn’t have imagined doing in the past. I honestly believed taking breaks was being lazy and not productive. Turns out I’m more productive the more time I take to breathe and have fun during the day.

Getting back to enjoying the simple pleasures in life such as walks in nature, naps in the middle of the day and playing with the dogs has brought back my creativeness and has been a game changer for propelling me toward my next steps in my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist and host of The Health Fix Podcast. What sets me apart from others in the online health industry is that I blend Eastern and Western Medicine with strategic conditioning training to help my patients manage stress effectively and keep their heart health in check while boosting their athletic performance. I’m proud to be able to blend functional medicine approaches for heart health with conditioning training to help fit and formerly fit ladies restore their heart health & athletic performance without fad diets and hours in the gym. It took me 15 years to get to where I am today and I’m still evolving every day. The road to where I am right now has not been easy, with a few business partnerships that didn’t go so well, as well as a battle with anxiety and insomnia. What has kept me going all these years is my will to succeed in helping support ladies on their mission to stay healthy for life.

Mindset and owning that I am in control of my thoughts has been huge to help me overcome hard lessons along the way. The biggest lessons that I have learned over the last 15 years are to trust your gut when it comes to business decisions, to take responsibility for your wins and failures as well as learn from them and to never stop re-evaluating your financials, work flow, thought processes as well as your ability to manage stressors. My story is not unique as most businesses have a lot of failures before they succeed. It’s not about getting it right or perfect it’s about moving forward and learning from every day. I came very close to closing my practice a little over a year ago due to extreme burnout yet I kept going because I knew it was in my soul to help ladies with their health. I sought out people who could guide me to create a practice that supported me so I could coach ladies to optimal health. It’s hard to do anything alone and having a few guides to support me along this journey has been incredibly valuable. It’s easy to compare yourself to others in your industry and bring yourself down. Each of us is on our own journey and it took me 15 years to get here and I’m excited to say I’m looking forward to the next 15.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d have to start the first day out at Pura Vida Edgewater for a quick smoothie before a walk by the water. Then once we’re warmed up a bit we’d have to head to Anatomy Midtown for a workout then to Salumeria 104 for a late lunch and hop over to the Wynwood Walls before we got ready for dinner at Chica. The next day we’d spend at South Beach people watching then head over to the Vagabond Hotel to grab a bite to eat at Mr. Mandolin for dinner and stay to hang out at the hotel pool bar as the Margaritas there are to die for. The last day in Miami we’d chill by the pool at the Surfcomber while doing a bit more people watching, jump in on a sunset city tour and end our weekend with dinner at Seaspice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First shoutout is to Petia Kolibova for planting the seed that I had the drive to create an amazing business but needed the mindset work. Then there are two groups that have helped to propel me forward in the online health industry – Healthpreneur and The Perfect Practice Mentorship. Not only has Yuri Elkaim has helped me to create a consistent flow of leads to my business he has also helped me to believe in myself and understand that my thoughts determine my success. Sachin Patel & Liana Rodriguez of Perfect Practice have helped me develop my perfect niche and how to create a tribe of folks I enjoy working with. Being in both groups at the same time has helped me to finally gain clarity on my ideal client and niche as well as the logistics and mindset necessary to carry out my plan for my perfect practice. I am finally creating the business and life I always wanted and I could not be more grateful to these two groups.
