We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobbie Weiner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bobbie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The bigger the risk, the bigger the rewards. I always bet on me. I think I can “DO IT” and just go forward and believe in myself. I look ahead. Not to the left or right. Just one direction. Alot of people in my life thought I was nuts to go to makeup school 25 years ago. I needed a new life and some one suggested I go to makeup school. Not just any makeup school, but one for the TV and the Film industry. So I said to myself “Why Not”?? When I was in High School i needed a job so I could buy myself a car. At 15 1/2 years old I got a job in a thrift shop after school. At 3:30 I would show up and sweep the floors and help with the inventory. 3 years later I opened my own Thrift shop and it became one of the biggest privately owned Second Hand Stores (owned by a women). Also then some of my friends thought I was nuts to do that. You have to own yourself and live your life for you!! Do what makes you happy. You should love what you do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Special Effects Makeup Artist for the Television and Film Industry and started my own Makeup company after finishing the dead frozen floating bodies for James Cameron’s mega hit film “Titanic” 25 years ago. I took a year off from working in TV and Film and created The Bloody Mary Special Effects Makeup Company. Bloody Mary is my nickname in that industry. It was not easy but very rewarding. Very long hours creating and marketing my line, but I lived with people and rented a room in their home or condo for 5 years so I could create the amazing company I own today. I spoke all over the world and demonstrated how I made the dead floating bodies in the greatest job I every had. I did Women’s Conventions, Mens Conventions, Colleges and Universities to tell them and show them what they can do with their lives whether it was a new beginning or starting over. I was 46 years old when I went to makeup school in Los Angeles after my husband left me for a young women half his age. He was ready to move on, I was surprised and then made the best of it. Started a new life and never looked back. The biggest lesson I learned was to believe in myself no matter what. Make a plan but always ready to change the lane if I had to. As long as I was going forward and continuing my journey for me.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I live in Maimi FL there is alot to do here. Tons of restaurants, sports, sight seeing etc… One of my favorite places is Key West. It is about a 2-3 hour drive from Miami and a fun place to visit and stay over for a day or 2. There is Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale with super hotels there to stay and lots of interesting places to visit. The beaches here are gorgeous. The boating is the best in the USA. We can charter a boat and go fishing for a day. We could fill up a week very quickly and my guests always want to come back no matter what. We have the best weather all year round except when there is a hurricane., but we get plenty of warnings.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents. They always had my back and believed in me. Always encouraged me to follow my dreams no mater what!!
