We had the good fortune of connecting with Latoya Cave and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Latoya, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most critical factors behind my success are professionalism, quality, and understanding. Although what I do isn’t too glamorous, eye-catching, or trendy, some might think it’s pretty dull and uninteresting however, it is quite necessary!
Behind the scenes of 1ST Leap Workforce Consulting, our success story is driven by me being more than just a Professional Resume Writer. I’ve seen my clients tackle the good, the bad, and the ugly while navigating the journey of life and career. My client’s need to win is my top priority and number one goal. My brand revolves around being a solace of hope, confidence builder, career coach, cheerleader, listening ear, motivator, and a friend to many frustrated job seekers and career changers. Hearing my client’s stories enables me to focus on them professionally and personally and create an empowering professional brand that ultimately increases their job search chances and stability. Owning 1ST Leap Workforce Consulting has allowed me to walk in my purpose while making a significant difference in my clients’ lives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
1ST Leap Workforce Consulting is a Resume Writing and Career Consultancy dedicated to building women’s career confidence and professional branding through effective resume writing, interview preparation, and job search mentoring. What sets me apart is that I am dedicated to bringing each client a peace of mind and stability by letting them know that they have a partner in me as they navigate career shifts and transitions. I believe I am where I am in business today because I understand first-hand the stress and frustration career transitions can bring and the needs job seekers face. After transitioning from the U.S. Navy to a post-military career, my career struggles and challenges led me to become a certified professional resume writer to help women job seekers walk a more accessible and more assured career path. Being able to relate to my client’s needs and helping them highlight their strengths and skills on paper has helped them show up more confidently in person, and this continues to be the most fulfilling and proudest moment of my business journey. I have learned many lessons, but the most critical thing that refocused my business mindset is that things are not always what they seem in other people’s success. Sometimes, you have to be comfortable wearing blinders and blocking outside detractions in business. Doing this has efficiently kept my business on course, jumpstarted my creativity, and boosted more effective habits.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you are a foodie like me and enjoy the beach life, the Tampa Bay Area has some pretty excellent spots that are super friendly and fun for all ages. Brunch is my favorite thing in the world, so I would suggest making reservations for a nice mid-morning outing at the Oxford Exchange and then heading to International Plaza and Bay Street for some much-needed retail therapy. In addition to kicking off the visit, I would suggest having a beach day near the 1928 landmark Don CeSar Hotel in St. Petersburg, Florida, and exploring all the area’s fun attractions, art, and cultures. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, American Victory Ship Mariners Museum, Epperson Lagoon, The Dali Museum, and Pirate Water Taxi are a few unique attractions that should always be on your list. Finally, after an eventful week, I would close out with lunch at Sparkman Wharf in the Channel District and dinner at the oldest and most legendary restaurant in Florida, the Columbia Restaurant.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Although many people see me as a team of one; I would like to wholeheartedly dedicate this shoutout to my wonderful husband James, who has been my business’s real backbone and foundation. After relocating to Tampa, James encouraged me to take a leap of faith and start my resume writing business. He has kept me motivated through the thick and thin of life, and business changes and has encouraged me to evolve and grow despite what life throws at me. In addition, he has been a wealth of knowledge in every aspect of my business growth. Finally, James’s love and dedication for 1ST Leap has never wavered from late-night conversations to assisting during extended hours turning around resumes. I appreciate everything he has contributed to helping make 1ST Leap Workforce Consulting a success.
