We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Morgan, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
The most important thing I believe I have done as a parent is go after my goals and dreams. I am actively teaching my children what it’s like to pursue your passions rather than just telling them to dream big, and that they can do anything they put their minds to. I had my first child at the age of 20 and I was far from ready to be a mother. However, I overcame many obstacles and did not let motherhood deter me from going after my goals. While the path did not look exactly what I dreamed of growing up, it has all been worth it. The best part is bringing my children along for the journey. I have two daughters and a son and it is important for me to show them what it looks like to create legacy from the ground up. I want my daughters specifically to learn that when they become mothers that they don’t have to lose themselves in the process. I am doing all I can to break the narrative that women are only purposed to be a mom and a wife. So, as I build my business, take on new challenges, and goals I include them and allow them to see the process of my journey. I have made it a point to show them the good, bad, and the ugly. I think it is one thing to tell your kids something and another thing to SHOW them. Although I am still in the building phase of all my different endeavors, I can already tell it has impacted my children in such a way that they are inspired.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am the founder of The Millennial Moms Club where we are redefining motherhood one woman at a time. The organization was created after I had my son. I had experienced post partum depression quite terribly . With having two children prior and not experiencing anything remotely similar to those feelings, it definitely took me by surprise. What i once knew was no longer (including myself) , things felt dark and I realized that no one should walk through this journey alone . Motherhood is a journey and it should have a community that is easily accessible . What we do is provide a space that prioritizes the health , wealth , and ingenuity of women. The platform is consistently growing and composed of women all over the world. Not just moms but WOMEN ,because you don’t have to be a mom to birth something amazing .The goal is to continue to grow, provide tangible resources and spaces for these women, and ensure that this organization redefines what motherhood looks like not just for my generation but my daughters daughters. This journey has not been easy although I started this organization in 2018 I honestly was not fully consistent with it until right before the pandemic hit. So, I have been growing a new business that is based on community in the midst of a pandemic.
I am most proud of how we have authentically built this organization and all there is to come now that we can start meeting more in person and moms feel safer to go out connect with other women. Professionally, I have overcome a lot of challenges but my biggest takeaway in all of this is to keep going. Everyday is a learning opportunity and if I let little hurdles or hiccups stop me from pursuing the bigger goal at hand. I have to plan for mishaps but I cannot quit and having that mindset has helped me continuously overcome challenges that I may face in building. It has also paid off significantly, outside of The Millennial Moms Club I have been blessed to become a host of a talk show called Moms Actually. It is a show/ podcast that gets rid of the “glossy” image of motherhood and sheds light on conversations women are actually talking about in their inner circles or just thinking. It is easy not to say what we truly feel for fear of being mom shamed or judged. However, this show helps women know that they have a safe space and that they are not alone.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So, my best friend and I are actually planning to come to Miami for a few days to celebrate her birthday and bachelorette next month!! Im super excited to let my hair down, have some time away from mommy duties, and enjoy some much needed girl time. I have mapped out a few places so that we can rest , have a good time, and EAT. We love to try great food places so here’s what I have so far.
We will have a beach/ boat day. We plan to do a full pool day at Strawberry moon , Hit up a spa and Mila rooftop for dinner, and maybe even a bike tour in Wynwood. I have tried to keep our plans structured but with flexibility so that we have room for spontaneous fun. Im hoping to add in a few water sports and a museum in there somewhere in the week. Overall, Im looking forward to it and can’t wait for some well deserved girl time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my husband, Rivers Taylor. He has supported me in so many ways that I don’t know that I would be able to accomplish all the things I do on a daily basis if it wasn’t for all of the support he gives. We are a team and he legitimately is always there to make up for whatever I am lacking. He is also not afraid to be honest with me and tell me what needs improving. It is one thing to have someone that will tell you what you want to hear and another thing to have someone who cares enough to tell you what you can do better. With all of the hats that I wear, being an entrepreneur, and having three kids it takes a certain amount of patience and teamwork to make sure our lives run somewhat smoothly. I am so grateful to have him in my corner and there to jump in. Whether,I need someone to edit, film, be a sounding board, or just take me out on a date to make me forget about the rough week I’ve had. I am so appreciative of him so, if he reads this. Shout out to you babe !!
