We had the good fortune of connecting with Lia Biscardi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lia, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
So, I started my business in June 2021, but the idea of my business started in January 2020. I wanted another pathway in my life besides the career of education. I started thinking about out of the box ways to serve others with my talent of photography so I tested all the different types: portraits, landscape and event photography. I stumbled upon product photography in March 2020 and fell in love. I hired a business coach in 2021 and based on her recommendation; I took the avenue of product photography all the way and quit teaching in June.

Product photography is an unique form of photography because its not just photography; it also contains photo marketing, photo styling and visual storytelling, Product photography became a big hit and need when the pandemic started as brick and mortar businesses needed to move online.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a creative photographer, I find myself successful in the art of perspective. Since my niche was focusing on small businesses, so I found my groove with helping businesses show their customers the benefits of their products.

So, I am in a field of my own because walking around telling people that you are a photographer, they assume that your focus is people. I do photograph people but most of my clients are business owners so instead of telling people that I am a photographer, I tell them I am a product photographer.

The reason I like to make that specific to people I talk to is that it can make a huge difference when I am making connections. This past year, I researched the amount of portrait photographers in Kinston and there are at least 12. However, when you search for product photographers, I am the only one.

However, just being the only one doesn’t draw people into me because you can also ship your products to a product photographer. The sole purpose that sets me apart is that I involve the business owner in the process. I don’t just say, “Hey send me your products and your photos will be ready in two weeks.” I send them a questionnaire before starting, then I sent them proofs two days later, and then keep sending proofs until we find the path we want to go on.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love little Havana, when I went to Cuba; I loved the culture and atmosphere of all the shops and restaurants. Little Havana really reminds me of Cuba. An airboat tour is a must, I love the Everglades. I watched CSI Miami growing up and the Everglades were always featured on the show. The biggest part of visiting Miami is the night life, just enjoying the artistic and vibes of the nightclubs.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My entire journey has been success because I have a HUGE support system – this includes the “normal” supporters like my boyfriend, parents and close friends. However, a huge shoutout should be given to my early clients who believed in me. When I started working as a product photographer full-time, your whole life depends on those clients who believe in my talent. My community of clients, other entrepreneurs and future clients who are constantly networking and connecting with my skills.
