We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Latortue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, how do you think about risk?
I am a strong believer in taking risks when you truly believe in and have a passion for something. I have taken many risks in my life and while some may not have always been in my favor, I am a glass half full type of person. I would rather try and fail, than to never try and wonder what could have been if I did try.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business was created in 2019 to help provide promotional support to Black owned businesses of South FL. I was able to get to this point almost 3 years later by the great connections I’ve made throughout the years. Of course with lots of prayer, affirmations, and staying positive, I was able to achieve goals I originally set out when starting the business. I’ve learned many lessons while in business and one major lesson is to never allow personal feelings to deter me from accomplishing my goals. Always stay focused and remain humble while doing so.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would first take my best friend to one of my favorite beaches/areas, Las Olas. We would relax on the sand, get some sun, and then head across to one of the restaurants for some good food and drinks! Then maybe head out to Wynwood for some music and dancing.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother has always been a great motivator and always believed in me and the decisions I have made for myself. She motivates me to keep working hard to become successful and achieve all of my goals. My best friend Ashelee was also very influential in motivating me to start my business venture. The fact that she believed I could do it helped me to start. We always need a little push to help direct us and she definitely did that!
