We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Mosby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandi, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“Everything happens for a reason”. Yes, things happen and there are reasons for it, but it’s not “just because”. Decisions we make affect the things that happen in our lives, It is one of those phrases people use to soften hard times or an excuse for bad decisions.
Things don’t always happen for a reason. They happen because we made a decision, and we have to also accept responsibility for our part in what happens in our life.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked in child welfare services for 5 years, and I loved helping people, but I didn’t love the government restrictions. I wanted to help people on my terms, well really on theirs, I wanted to know what the client needed and how I could help them instead of telling them what they need and forcing something on them.
My coaching sessions are client led, and I really listen to their needs and help them create a plan rather than give exact direction because they have to be able to sustain their plan.
Professionally, I am not where I want to be. I opened in January of 2020, so that has been a rough start. I really am barely focusing on obtaining clients this year in 2022, and it has been a slow start, but I am going to keep on moving!
Lessons I have learned along the way is, start simple. You don’t need a website, business cards, shoot you don’t even need a business license, depending on what you are doing, but for mine, I don’t. I spent way too much money on things I didn’t need and should’ve made sure I had business first and was making money before I invested in some of these other things.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Interestingly enough my best friend did visit for a week! Her son was two at the time, so we were limited. We went to Lucky Ladd Farms in which was really fun! We walked around “the square”, which is downtown Murfreesboro. Of course, we can’t have her and her family leave without going downtown Nashville walking Broadway and overseeing the walk bridge!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My brother has been one of my biggest supporters from day one and one of my first clients and still is to this day. I run most things by him just for his opinion because I know he will be neutral and give me his honest opinion. My friends have also been huge supporters in everything I do whether it’s encouragement, buying, being a practice client, sharing with their friends. Of course, I cannot leave out my husband and my daughter! Without them I would not be the person I am.
