We had the good fortune of connecting with Sharnika Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sharnika, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I would like my legacy to be identified as always going against the status quo and never accepting the word “No”. I want to be remembered as someone who used every odd against me as a catalyst to strive for success. Being black, educated, female, and an entrepreneur are all threats to this society, and I chose to be one of the ones to prove the system wrong.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My artistry revolves around abstract thinking and idiosyncratic concepts. I love bright and vibrant colors to create with, along with unconventional props to help bring my visions to life. When I first decided to become a makeup artist, I strived to create looks that others won’t ever think about doing themselves. I am a natural born trendsetter and innovative thinker. It warms my heart to know that other artists are inspired by me to push the envelope and go beyond their comfort zones. As a young, black model the industry can easily swallow you whole if not well equipped and educated about the business aspect of it. Thanks to my four year journey at Florida State University, I was able to receive mentorship and experience the industry through the realities of other artists before me. I’ve used those tools and resources to sharpen my professionalism and be more assertive in my businesses. A few things I’ve learned is that no one will take you seriously until you take your own self serious, and staying true to yourself, despite what others are doing, allows your creativity to flow and be free.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Of course the first spot to hit is the beach!!! I absolutely love the atmosphere and scenery at the beach, where the water is always pretty and the tourists roam. A favorite night scene of mine is Dukunoo Jamaican Kitchen in Wynwood, Miami. The food and drinks are utterly delicious, and the DJ always has the vibes going with the island tunes. Also, a cool place to go enjoy with friends is PlugIN Karaoke in Hallandale Beach. If you like to sing, even though you can’t, and know your music, this place will be a blast for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a warm shot out to my friends and family that continuously support my every move, without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you to both of my collegiate organizations, Addiction Dance Experience, and Images Modeling Troupe Inc. for helping me find my artistic niche and voice. A big shot out to my extended family, the Iota Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. for always being of service to me and my businesses.
