We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Haq and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been into crafting, but when I was diagnosed with lupus about four years ago I decided to pursue it full-time. Since I’m not able to work full-time anymore, I would be able to have a small business and work at my own pace. There’s nothing better than being able to do what you love to do and I love creating.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Latina. I love what I do. I love to make people happy and I love packing orders. If you know me, you know I love glitter! There’s not one order that will leave my house without glitter, lol! There are so many small business owners and I think we are honestly all unique. I love making custom one of a kind items. It hasn’t always been easy, as I suffer from lupus but I’ve learned a lot of lessons along the way. I have been super nice. I have rushed orders that have had me up until 2 AM. I have lowered my prices. I have given deals and I have learned my lesson with all of the above. I never thought that I would actually become a small business owner,  but I have made investments and I love to work with the community. I love doing vendor events and getting to know people and I love supporting other women owned small businesses. It’s not always easy, but don’t ever give up on your dreams.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I mean when you live in Florida the beach is the best place to go, right? There’s nothing I love better than a sunrise. There’s also a little spot to have breakfast at Lauderdale by the Sea, the Village Grill, it’s amazing. You can go to Tap 42 for lunch or dinner. They have the best atmosphere and environment. If you love butterflies like I do, I always have a year pass to Butterfly World in Coconut Creek. I spend a couple of days a week there. It’s definitely my place to be with a cup of coffee. There’s nothing like it.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I have the most amazing husband , Shawn Haq, who completely supports me. He works a full-time job and he’s always willing to go to vendor events with me. Since I am not able to set up by myself he helps me to set up my booth. He literally has helped make my dream come true. He supports me and all my crazy ventures with my business. I’m extremely lucky and blessed!
I love the Instagram woman owned small business community. No matter what kind of small business you are, it is a beautiful, amazing, loving, and encouraging community. I am here for all your custom orders and ideas.
