Meet Roger López | Courier Importer & Cinema Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Roger López and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roger, how do you think about risk?
Well, I think that every decision we make about a business or a career have a risk, because we have to choose something, and at some level be aware that it could be or not the right thing for us. I mean, when the company I worked close, I stared looking for a new job but didn’t find anything moreover the Art University accept me, so I have to choose between a career and money (I mean a job). Then I realize that had to take a risk which was star a business without knowing if it would be rentable but I was the only thing that allows me to study and had time for it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, what I do, I mean my work, is easy to explain, basically involve to take products that people buy in online pages and import them from U.S.A. to Ecuador but the process is much more complicated. For the name that I use and the logo, is a tribute to a tv program that I used to watch when I was a child which is called “Futurama”, and feels good when people recognize it. My brand give the advisory that people need to buy thing online, we do it for free and some times we buy thing that our clients want and we don’t recharge a penny for it, sometimes people what to buy things that are not available in our country and they don’t know how even more for that ones that are not familiar with technology, is impossible to do it, so we make it for them without charge, for the service we charge is for import their products to Ecuador.
It wasn’t easy, not that it’s easy now, but star just with one client and have two clients by next month is disappointing, luckily my friend Maira Crespo, who already had a business same as mine, give my advises about how I can improve what I was doing, and I did. If there is a lesson that I learned, is to listen to people who know how is star a business from nothing, there are always going to be people who tell, “you should quit”, “that is not for you”, “you must do another thing”, that people don’t want that you to be success instead you have to listen the ones that tell you not to give up and continue steadily until you make it.
Studying and have a business is not easy, but is not impossible. I’m also student from Art University, I study Cinema, and the key is scheduling your time every week and always find a time for relax even if it is just an hour, it’s important to relax one on a while, watch a movie, reed a book, make exercise, whatever that help you relax.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As I am a person who like art, I’d take my friend to the museums around the city, there are two Malecon in the city which are a tourist places to visit. I really good place to hang out is a Botanic Park and Historic Park. Luckily from this city is two hour drive to get to a beach or go to high land where the landscape are the most beautiful thing to see in my country.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friend, Maira Crespo, who encourage me every day to continues with my business. Piadad Lopez and Luis Lopez my family who are always helping me. My Friends Steph Mosquera and Nancy Alay who motivated me to study a career I like.
