We had the good fortune of connecting with Ariel McConnell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ariel, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Personally, success is happiness and contributing something bigger than yourself to the world. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy like becoming president of the United States but, it can be great for you and others around you. Anything that doesn’t cause harm to others and can maybe make someone smile.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I’ve always loved animals. I started working in the veterinary field as a kennel technician at a full-time animal hospital. Worked my way up to veterinary technician and receptionist but always knew I wanted to do more so ventured out into veterinary dentistry, After working with a non-anesthetic dental company prior to Covid, I got to see what all of the veterinary fields lacked a little bit. I wanted to eliminate stress and fear with any dental cleaning for our sweet dogs and cats. I make it just like humans going to the dentist. Honestly what set me apart from others is my patience and understanding with my clients. I just talk to them like a human. If they’re being a jerk, I’m gonna tell them. But if they’re being a good boy or girl by sitting and listening to my commands, then we get lots of positive words. It’s not easy at all to control any part of my cleaning. I just have to hope that my patients trust me and I have to trust them. Cause, I like all ten of my fingers! And I want to continue cleaning more dogs and cats’ teeth. It is very important to maintain your animals’ oral health. Over 80% of dogs after the age of 3 have active periodontal disease.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, only two people come straight to my mind who have been constant believers and supporters of my passion. My mom and dad, Mayte and Roy have always done what is possible to support my choices and help me navigate life. Starting any business without any clients or supplies is hard, but achieving that during a worldwide pandemic is a terrific feeling.
I would like to also thank my best friend and sister Kelsey Yaple for always keeping me level-headed and telling me almost every single day that my work and passion matter. Always keep going. Thank you, dude.
