We had the good fortune of connecting with Myrlande Elien and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myrlande, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

Hair care has always been a passion of mine, but to take that passion and give it a name that’s what exhilarates me. I started SS Hair Care, because I wanted to own a brand where hair care is rendered with QUALITY, DETAIL, and DILIGENCE that is catered to each individual’s needs. Assuring that person’s hair is cared for in its own unique way, is what SS Hair Care is all about. My love for hair will always move me to secure that SS Hair Care provides “Hair Care at its Best.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Being a Licensed Cosmetologist, with over 28 years of experience, has been a joy. The ability to care for a person’s hair brings me so much excitement. Having the experience to be able to identify my client’s hair condition and using what is needed to get their hair back to a healthy state is what I enjoy the most. I use personalized skills and techniques, in my hair care services, to aid each client in relief of stress, side effects from medication as well as changes in health, so they can enjoy their growing hair. Today I am proud to be the owner of my own hair care product line and brand. SS Hair Care product line is composed out of my kitchen, it is made to order, and it is suitable for every hair in any condition. I have seen and experienced a woman’s hair changes with age, lifestyle and medication. This is what moved me to develop SS Hair Care product line. Our main ingredients, which is derived from plants and seeds, helps keep a woman’s hair healthy and strong through these stages. Nothing is ever hard or easy, everything is always new. In this new journey of developing my own hair care line, I came to realize that I have been doing this all my life. In the salons, where I would perviously work, I would mix different ingredients in the salon’s back kitchen in order to treat my client’s hair condition at the moment. The only challenge, if that, I would have a suit case of different ingredients rolling behind me into work everyday. Thinking about it now it’s kind of funny. My coworkers and clients call me the “hair doctor.” I have learned in this journey to never give up. Having the opportunity to provide hair care for several of clients and their family, through 5 generations, is what allowed me to compose the perfect formula. My oldest client is 95 years old and my youngest is 5 years old. Today I do not have a suit case of indigents to mix, I am blessed to have composed a formula that is suitable for all hair stages and condition.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Well this should be easy, since I live in that state where most vacation. South Florida here we go! For a week long trip we would definitely stay the the Guitar at the Hard Rock and hit of the slot machines here a there. My favorite dinner spot to visit, because they never disappoint, is Smith and Wollensky in Miami Beach and Ruth Chris in Aventura. Dancing and drinking would diffidently be Club Space, Story and E11EVEN in Miami Beach. Charter a Yacht for a day in the sun, water skiing and also a little Jet Skiing. Enjoy some comedy shows here and there at the Improv in Dania. Catch a game at the FX Arena in Miami. The Florida beaches is a must and you never know who you’ll run into at Bayside while having breakfast at La Industria.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

After God, I would like to dedicated this shout out to my husband Ralph Elien and my children Daniela, Emmanuela and Samuel for their support, love and encouraging words in my journey.
