We had the good fortune of connecting with Silvia Nogales Barrios and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Silvia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Ever since I was a child, I’ve been surrounded by art. In my family there are several artists: dancers, actresses, painters, etc. I think I breathed that atmosphere from the beginning. I always believed that music was a way, a means to reach the audience and transmit experiences and emotions. So, before finishing my music studies, I started creating interdisciplinary music shows. Shows where music merges with other arts to create a total audience experience.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Since before finishing my studies I thought about concerts from a global point of view. What differentiates my concerts from those of other artists is that in them the music relies on other disciplines to make the concert a complete experience. My concerts or shows break with the traditional concept of classical music concert. For example, my latest release, SEDA, tells a series of stories intertwined through a journey along the Silk Road. The journey is made by our protagonist, an anonymous woman
She embarks on a journey and makes stops in various countries: Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Asia, the East, USA, etc. Each stop corresponds to a block in the concert, in which a story is told and original music by composers from all over the world is performed. Each composer has wanted to tell through her music the experiences of women from their own countries. So we embark on a journey of experiences of women from all over the world and the music of great composers. For the show we have the music of Claudia Montero (4 Latin grammy), Clarice Assad, Cinthya García, María Parra or myself. In the production I am accompanied by José Domenech (winner of a Latin grammy) and CEO of Strommar (Miami), together with Cinthya García (Composer). When we make the SEDA tour, the concert becomes a show, where the stories are told by an actress and we can see projected on a set by Alessio Meloni the animations (by Elisa Martínez) of the protagonist’s journey.

When you start to create or embark on a new path that didn’t exist before, to open a new path in the musical world, it’s not easy. Sometimes you don’t understand your point of view until you see the live shows. The road is not easy, but I think it is worth it because it creates an identity and opens up a range of possibilities. Right now we are in the race to the Latin Grammy and these rewards make it worthwhile to follow, because you can see the recognition for your work.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Without a doubt, I think that if I’ve come to this part of the road, it’s because of the people closest to me. My private circle is not very large, that allows me to have a better perspective of what’s going on around me. Besides, they are not part of the music and can give me a different view. Then I’m lucky enough to have people who don’t belong to my lifelong family or group of friends. People I met in the music world who are like my family and are supporting me because they really believe in the potential of what I do now.
To all of them, who already know who they are, I also send a hug.
