I am not sure that we ever find true “balance.” For me balance implies movement and change, eb and flow, instead of a place we find and stay in. One of the biggest things I have had to learn is how to trust myself and trust that it’s okay for me to follow inspiration and it’s okay for me to take breaks. One thing I have really been learning to work with is my natural impulses and rhythms. Some weeks it feels good to do a few hours of work a day, others it feels good to take 3-4 days off then spend 2-3 days really “in the zone” with work. Read more>>

My work/life balance has gotten better from the beginning of this journey but I still have a long way to go. I recently realized that I was taken on too many tasks at once. Occupying all your weekends for a month pretty much locks you down and if you’re constantly doing that it can prevent you from spending time with yourself or close friends and family. I’ve learned that my lack of good organization skills is at the core of those problems so lately I’ve been working on being more organized and it makes a huge difference in how I balance my work and personal life. I’ve thought about ‘balance’ over time in different ways and have most recently realized and accepted that I can create my own balance. Someone else’s balance, or the fitness coach’s balance won’t apply to me, nor will it contribute to my personal or profesional goals. In the beginning of my photography journey, I was 100% on the gas. I think that’s the way it should be. I was taking every opportunity just about, no matter the budget or scope. I was very young and very inexperienced. Now, I’m very different than that. Even though there’s always some form of work I could always be doing, I try to really take time to myself to just relax and just almost do nothing.
