We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Haarsma and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sky, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When covid first happened and we switched to online school I quickly learned that I enjoyed it and wanted to stay. But my dad told me that I had to start my own business in order to stay online, so that’s when I came up with TIGG. I love fashion and wellness and just threw it all into one big blog, The It Girl Guide.
What should our readers know about your business?
The It Girl Guide is different than other blogs out there because it is like taking a look into my brain. It’s super personal and I make sure to keep a certain group of people in my mind when trying to figure out who I’m writing to. It’s not designed for everyone and that’s okay! Throughout the process I’ve had to learn to not care about what anyone thinks and when I grow, TIGG grows with me. This business is a living breathing thing and it took me some time to figure that out.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If a friend came and stayed in Los Angeles we would first have to stop for an iced matcha or coffee at Alfred’s. I love that they make their own vanilla syrup. I’d definitely take them to Erewhon and show them whatever new smoothie is out for limited time, because those are always fun. And since I’m such a beach girl I would have to take them to Malibu. It’s so pretty whether you want to go for a swim or not. For an iconic açaí bowl we would go to Sunlife Organics. And of course for dinner we would go to Nobu and try to find the Kardashians. On another day we could go for a hike at Runyon Canyon or go shopping at Wasteland for well priced designer pieces.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents deserve so much credit. They have been so supportive throughout the whole process and I couldn’t do it without them. My dad helped me build my website and is constantly giving me tips on how to grow. And my mom is always ready to jump in the car to test out a new smoothie. They are both really committed to me and TIGG.
