We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Flemings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process was pretty simple. I was tired of working the 9-5, M-F. sometimes 50 hours a week. I honestly felt me as a person I was not happy with waking up every morning just punching a clock. I felt my purpose was greater. My purpose was to do something bigger, to educate, to showcase my talents to the world. I always had a love for taking pictures but was not quit sure how to turn that passion into revenue. I tried to do this while continuing my 9-5 but there was no way this could be possible,If I wanted to test my true potential and give this business a fair shot I had to make a choice, continue my 9-5 or it was time to take a leap of faith and become my own boss and that’s were it all started. I quit my job and put all my energy into building my own brand.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think a lot of people that own their own business will tell you that they are overly passionate about what they do. That is the same thing with me, At this point in my career I would not want to be doing anything else. I personally feel my drive to continue to be better. I don’t sleep until I’m happy with the work. That is just what it takes to be good, countless hours of hard work and practice. When you are just starting a new business you have a lot to over-come. Sometimes you tell yourself will the business take off. will I be able to make a living. Am I good enough. How long will it take for business to pick up. You can’t beat yourself up and you have to stay consistent. in my opinion nothing in life worthwhile is easy. I have learned a lot along the way.. with anything you do in life be consistent and ti will work out. Your hard work and dedications may lead you to lose some friends and gain some as well. but you have to stay balanced. The world should know that Flemings Photography is not just a wedding photography company but we are family oriented and we do this for the love. I have put everything I have into building a well known foundation.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well I was born in New Orleans, raised in California but reside in Texas. Texas is the home of amazing food & shopping, so I would definitely take them to a place called sky Blossom. I would then head over to the AT&T financial District and let them walk around and see the tall buildings and skyscrapers. We would then head over to deep ellum where we can find a few more restaurants bars and some amazing historical things. And if they are up to it we were then head over to the three-story galleria mall for some shopping. And depending on the day of the week we may be able to catch a Mavericks game in uptown at the American Airlines Center or a Cowboys game at AT&T Stadium. If they’re into baseball maybe we can check out the Rangers as well. The next day we will definitely have to follow up with some of the most amazing bright spots I’ve ever been to, such as Stirr , Five bistro and bar or Dolce Riviera. Definitely if it’s summertime we have to go to the pool party at the Virgin hotel or Statler Hotel , it’s definitely a vibe.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First I would like to think Jesus Christ without him none of the things I do would be possible. Thanks to my friends and family and amazing peers. To my family and friends that would push me to do better, to the friends that didn’t let jealousy or greed get in the way of friendship. Keeping the right people in your circle is definitely a testament to your success. I want to give a shout out to Roxanna, She would always tell me I was better than everyone even when I knew my work was not good at that time haha. She would tell me I’m going to take over , she would tell me no other photographers are good as me and I’ll be at the top lol. She would send me things via text and tell me “just to let you know , you can do this & better” she was like my hype person” lol. Everyone needs someone like this in their life.
