We had the good fortune of connecting with Heloíne Moreno and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heloíne, what do you attribute your success to?
Determination, and the fact that I really believed in myself. Success does not happen from night to day. In order to accomplish something you will need to overcome pain, failures and many obstacles.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I came to the US, 10 years ago with a plan of improving my English and learning about the culture. I wanted to do that within an year and then go back to Brazil to work as a translator. In my second month in the country my work exchange program didn’t work out. I saw myself without a job, money or a place to live. I was desperate. My family back home wanted to borrow money from the bank to bring me back to Brazil. I refused, I did not wanted to go back after 2 months as a loser who gave up on the way. I ended up moving to a stranger’s house and slept in her sofa for 5 months. The house did not have the best living conditions, the few friends I had felt really bad for me. They used to question me why didn’t I just give up and go back to my country? They used to bring me canned food to help me with my expenses. I got a job in a restaurant, it was far and I had to drive by myself with no experience of driving. Back in Brazil I’d usually walk everywhere or get a cheap “mototáxi” (a motorcycle cheap ride) so I could save money to be able to pay for my college Bachelors degree. I stayed 1 month working in this restaurant until I got a job in a hotel front desk, which is something I had experience back home working with that. Another 5 months paying $400 monthly to sleep in a couch, until I was able to get my own place. After my first year in the US, I was already modeling on the side while I kept my main stable job. I was planing to go back to Brazil but first I decided to travel. I left Richmond, VA, to go visit LA and Vegas. And finally I came to Miami. After visiting Miami for the first time I fell in love with the city. I immediately changed my plans and went back to Virginia with a goal of working hard for myself to help my family back home, improve myself as a model and come back to Miami as soon as I had accomplished those goals. And I did that. It took me another 6 years but I did. I was able to give a better life to my family, I invested in my career as a model, I traveled to different states and countries, and finally 3 years ago I moved to Miami. I knew the modeling competition here was very high, but the opportunities were also unique. After only 6 months in Miami, I got my first Playboy publication as Playmate of the month in Playboy Mexico. I also got published in many other magazines, walked in different fashion shows, modeled in music videos of artists that I am big fan of like Farruko, El Alfa, Maluma, Rauw Alejandro, etc… and the main thing is I am happy and proud of my journey. It’s been 3 years that I am a full time model and influencer. I work for myself, I am my own boss who chooses which jobs I want or don’t want to do, I live in one of the most beautiful cities of the world and I’ve traveled to 21 different countries. I want to stay in this same path and just get better and more successful in everything that I’ve been doing.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When friends come to visit I love having a lazy day tanning at the pool and of course the beach. I live right in south beach which has some great tourist spots. From walking to South Park to watch the sunset or pick a restaurant like “Call me Gaby” for dinner. I also like to show some of the Wynnwood spots by walking around the area to try the local food. I like to take my friends to the Marketplace or to dance at Dirty Rabbit or El Patio. But one of the my favorite dance spots is right in south beach Bodega. Love that place. If they never tried Brazilian food I like to take them to Boteco or another Brazilian spot that is in the tourist Espanola Way..
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I thank my family, even with the distance we always stay connected and they are my number one support in my journey.
