We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Hunter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always been a more creative person. The irony is this wasn’t a career choice at first. I liked making videos for fun. I did it on and off on YouTube for years. More recently I was kind of at a loss for what I wanted to do. I decided to get a camera since it would be essential to making videos and I decided to learn about photography in the process so that I could use it to bolster my skills. And I just got obsessed with it. I took photos of everything I could, trying to recreate things I saw online and well that carried me to developing my style and this passion I have today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a photographer first before anything else but I label myself as a creative artist. I capture images and use them to tell stories that others may like, or relate to. If I could say there’s anything that sets me apart it might be that I’m legally blind. When people learn that they are usually taken back by it.

I’m proud to know my work influences others and gets them motivated to try it themselves. I’m even more excited for what the future holds for me. Bigger projects, travel, and more opportunities to help others and share my work with them or help them to make their own.

You learn a lot as an artist. It’s not enough to just create, you also have to put your work out into the world and that can be nerve racking. You have to roll with the punches and take the good feedback and the bad together. Hardest lesson for me was accepting “delayed gratification” in that you have to let the numbers come when they come. Some things just aren’t gonna go as well as you hoped and that’s ok. Just learn and keep trying and soon that consistency you crave will come. A quote I’ve always liked was “Picture everyone around you is making black and white TV. Be the one who creates color TV”. It always felt inspiring for me.

As for what I want people to know? I’d say no matter your situation, circumstance, or condition, always remember you have the gift of being yourself and that matters. You can create beautiful things if it’s what you want to do. Photos, videos, art, music, anything you have a passion for you can see it through and make something of it. It just takes the willingness to start. I took a chance despite my circumstances to follow my passion and do what I thought was cool and I will always support and encourage good people doing good things with their abilities. As a creative I’m about getting after it and remembering to always enjoy the journey. You’ll be happier for it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There’s so many places to go and see in Florida. In South Florida alone places like Flynn’s and Round 1 offer so much fun for gamers of all types. If snapping pics is your jam I’d easily say visit the many parks in the area. Tree Tops, and Fairchild Gardens just to name a few. If they don’t mind a little travel my absolute favourite place is definitely Ginnie Springs in High Springs FL. It’s such a stellar place and a great spot to get away, have fun and capture memories.

For food I’d easily recommend Bento or Poke Ramen for some delicious Asian cuisine or head to Miami for what’s probably still my favourite burger place ever Burgers and Beers. Can’t ever go wrong with that place haha.

Something a little more unique is the selfie museums here in south Florida. They are really fun places to get selfies you couldn’t get elsewhere. There’s also the multitude of beaches including the popular South Beach. Florida in general has a plethora of things. From sun and sand, to beautiful nature, to city districts and shopping areas all the way to the big guitar hotel of the Hard Rock. The better question is wether or not a week is enough time.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be nothing without the support of my friends family and following. Every person who comes along on this journey is an essential piece to my growth and ability as a creator. I love what I do but I truly do this for them and to hopefully inspire others to take a chance and turn their passions into a career they are happy with. Thank you all!
