We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Oakes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Having a work life balance has not always come easy for me. Over a year ago, I was going through a stressful time and had very little time for life outside of work and my body crashed. This was a very quick lesson for me that I couldn’t continue the “go go go” work lifestyle with no “life” balance. My journey to a work-life balance came soon after this when I went on a much needed vacation; I had to close down Reset in order to take this trip, and my business suffered but my body healed itself and was thriving once again. This was a learning experience for me because in order to get the “life” balance, my business took a beating and it was clear to me that the operations at Reset were completely dependent on my presence. When I returned to Miami, I made some changes and two months later I tried again and went on another trip; this time Reset was able to remain open while I was gone, but there were challenges such as significantly decreased revenue with my absence. I adjusted, made more changes, hired a manager at Reset, and two months later I went on another vacation and this time Reset flourished in my absence. One of the greatest takeaways from my travels and making operational changes to Reset was realizing that many of my work tasks, whether they are of a mundane or creative nature, can be delegated to the right person. Having a team of people has elevated my business as well as my quality of my life.
Taking trips to a different state (or country!) are so important for me because besides the extra sleep and mental and physical health benefits, the trips are actually good for business too. These trips offer an opportunity to audit the operations at Reset, to see where changes and improvements need to be made so business can run more efficiently and effectively. And it is on these trips that my conscious mind has the space and time to wander, dream, explore, and plan for what I want my next business and personal moves to be.
My business isn’t a separate entity to who I am as a person, it is an extension of who I am and my business values and personal values are aligned. Reset Cryotherapy is a muscle recovery, self care, and biohacking business focused on helping athletes and weekend warriors recover faster and perform better. Living my brand is a form of my self care; sweating with my team, clients, and friends and sharing the good vibes of health and wellness in the Miami and South Beach fitness community is what fuels me and inspires me. Today, my work-life balance is achieved through continuous acts of self care. This means taking time for myself to go for a sunrise run, join a friend for a workout, enjoy the infrared sauna, and share a meal with friends. I prioritize these activities by doing them in the early morning and by scheduling them in my calendar. For me, there is a lot of overlap between work and life, and this works for me since Reset is very much in alignment with who I am and the activities that I enjoy. Having a strong self care routine and regular check-ins on my relationships, activities and people that bring me joy, my health and nutrition, workouts and movement, and even offering myself the gift of time for creativity have become essential for my happiness and my success as a business woman.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Workouts would include early morning beach runs and private sessions with Dino Spencer at 5th St Gym. Brunch and healthy eats from Pura Vida, Under the Mango Tree, and Apple a Day Cafe. For a weekend brunch, Cecconi’s at Soho Beach House is at the top of my list. Day activities would include a long bike ride, possibly up to Fort Lauderdale or Key Biscayne, and renting a small boat to cruise and mingle with friends. Dinners out would include Joia Beach, Joe’s Stone Crab, Smith & Wollenskys; and no South Beach experience is complete without a visit to Chef Bee at Oshi Thai or Naiyara.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dino Spencer of 5th St Gym is my spirit human and lights a light in me that can get me through the darkest of times. Training with Dino regularly is one of the best investments I’ve ever made. lululemon Lincoln Road squad is so supportive of both me and Reset and has given Reset so many opportunities to show up for the fitness community. I am so grateful for my team at Reset; each individual on our team has helped to elevate the Reset brand and experience and I couldn’t be more proud of them!
