We had the good fortune of connecting with Maylani Medkiff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maylani, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
While working a full time job and being a full time baker , it is very difficult to balance work and normal life activities, I have learned to manage my time enough to where I am not over working myself at both jobs and making sure I take the time to really give myself that breather so that i am able to give my business 100% that it deserves. A healthy work-life balance can improve your physical, emotional and mental health which is very important when it comes to being successful.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business name is Sweet Soleil LLC,I have been in business for the last two years Back in 2021 I decided to take my business a lot more serious than just a hobby, I started baking for Birthdays, Weddings, Baby Showers, and events. I also was invited to Dessert WARS in Miami back in 2021 where I got 7th place in Peoples choice out of over 60 vendors, I attend the Dessert Wars cake showdown where I was able to create a Multi-tiered cake that represents Dessert wars, in Tampa, Florida! And then I was invited back again in 2022 for the first “Dessert Wars after dark” event in Miami, where I got 4th place. This year in 2022 I got the opportunity to permanently sell my desserts (cupcakes, cakesicles, cakes, cheesecakes) at a new bakery in Hialeah gardens “Miami Tres Leches y mas” its a bakery that sells not only tres leches but other known local bakers. Bringing all the goods of Miami in one place. I’ve been pretty blessed, to say the least. and have had so many opportunities along the way. I believe that my passion and my mind set to be bigger and better than what I was yesterday is what sets me apart from others , having a business is not easy at all, especially if your doing it alone while working a full time job , managing everything can become overwhelming but seeing the happiness I bring to my customers makes it all worth it. I’m proud of the person I have become over the years and seeing my growth only motivates me to keep going. Ive learned that no matter how hard it may get just keep pushing. I’m excited to see where 2023 brings me and my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few spots I would recommend in Miami would be Mayors Cafe in Miami lakes for Breakfast , Shoma bazaar in doral is another amazing place im there 24/7 , for brunch lunch and dinner and they have two bars a cocktail bar as well as a bar with just beer , its also a food hall so not only do you get awesome drinks the food never disappoints. As far as desserts , Miami tres leches y mas in hialeah is the spot to be at , not because I sell my desserts there , but the owner Courtney , has all miamis best local bakers all in one shop , which is not heard of , all the bakers there including myself encourage each other and work together to make Miami’s best desserts possible all in one place

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family , My mom Denise, my sister Jewelissa , My brother Cristafer and my Partner Orvin , for always believing in me and always supporting me in all my endeavors , that support system really does make a difference.
