We had the good fortune of connecting with Joan Damian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joan Damian, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
I honestly had a few real difficult decisions to make throughout my life in relation to my music career.

The first one I would say it was the fact that when I made the choice to become an aspiring artist, from my family’s side, I mean the closest ones didn’t quite get it and I felt that for them that was a bit of a letdown.

The second one was moving from the USA to Europe.

That was an extremely hard choice to make because it was basically a bit bet for me. I had no money, no connections but I was able to keep a good attitude and move forward with my choice.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What set me apart from others. Hhmm, thats a tough one. I am not really sure if it really sets me apart from others but I guess I am not afraid to do different music styles that ya’ll be able to hear in the near future since I recently started releasing music.

I keep hearing this idea that “once you drop music you have to stay relevant” and I guess that translate to always sounding the same. Or at least that is what I am hearing a lot this days. Sometimes I feel like most songs sound the same.

I am definitely proud of not giving up as an artist because although my journey was a bit rough It indeed paid out. I started as a guitar player and when the time came to get gigs the trick was that I had to play the bass. So I guess is good to keep an open mind and let things flow.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first shoutout I want to give is definitely to my mother Maria for always believing in me and supporting me no matter what. She is the hardest working, loving, respectful and driven person I’ve ever. Gracias Ma!!!

The second person is Mr. Sirjeanpierre and his brother Malaikye Luis. I mean this guys are more than friends to me, I consider them like brothers from another mother. Along the years not only they had been a good, healthy influence in my life, year after year, day after day they always motivate me to move forward with my music. They believed in me even at times when no one else did. They even put a roof over my head and food on the table when I needed it. I love this guys.

The third person is definitely the genius Gato Mendez. Not only for being a good friend, this guys has been a huge mentor in my life. He taught me a lot about music production from mixing to how to manoeuvre different music softwares. This guy is truly a dreamer and I am really glad I met him.

Last but not least, my best friend Gussy Gus. What can I said, through the years Gus always stayed in touch, worry and cared for me. Love you bro.
