We had the good fortune of connecting with Nia O’Connor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nia, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is to one day have a well-known Nail Empire where we manufacture innovative nail products. Hopefully these products will be available for purchase in most stores globally.

What should our readers know about your business?
My company Bawse Nails started in 2014 when my friend asked me to do her nails for her. I then developed a deep passion for everything nails related and started my nail company and it has been growing over the last 7 years. A proud moment for my business is that I launched another business called Bawse Essentials where I provide nail products and so far we have launched a travel size organic Coconut x Jojoba cuticle oil (which is now on the shelf in a store called ‘The Life Store’ in Kingston, Jamaica) and a gel polish nail pen where persons can polish their nails for a low cost and on-the-go.

I would say that to get to where I am today I had to invest a lot of money into my business and most importantly I had to have a lot of patience in order to see the company’s growth. I had to stay up late nights researching how to do various nail designs and always purchasing the latest nail art products as the nail industry is one that is ever changing. This journey has definitely not been an easy one as it comes with many challenges along the way but being able to push forward despite the challenges is what keeps the business going.

Some lessons that I learnt along the way are time is the master, things won’t always go according to plan, budget and keep tract of your cash flow and always aim to expand your business and be innovative and ahead in the industry.

I want the world to know that I am a young adult who is driven by passion and as a result of that my business is going to elevate to greater heights.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to multiple restaurants in Wynwood and of course go sight seeing in Wynwood after, also hang out at Miami Beach. I would also research which concerts are being held and try to go see a famous artist perform (which is my favorite thing to do). Lastly, we would have to go shopping at Aventura mall and Sawgrass Mall.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family, friends and strangers who continuously support my business in every way possible. But, most importantly I want to thank my father who has held my hand, guided and supported me the most in my entrepreneurial journey, whether it be advice, financial support or just anything in general that my business needs. My father is always the first person I go to! and for that I am grateful for him, thank you daddy.
