We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsy Valencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kelsy, can you tell us about what you are most excited or proud of in terms of the business you’ve built?
What makes me proud from what I’ve built from Miami Writes co is helping others to push to become business owenrs as well. I’ve had so many messages from followers mention to me that I gave them that extra push to become business owners. First thing I mention to everyone, I have two jobs, I work full time for a well known hospital here in Miami and have Miami Writes co. I give them that hope and say yes, it is possible to be a business owner and have a full time job. Is it hard, of course! Are you going to have rough days? Absoutely!, but you can do it! You just have to trust yourself! I think the best thing to hear as a business owner is when others ask for help or just ask questions by saying, They’ve been able see how I’ve been able to build Miami Writes co and the drive that Chris and I have as owenrs. Seeing others in our apperal or hiring us for their next event brings us so much joy!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a Creative minded person, I think what sets myself, and the brand, apart from others is our Authenticity and Attainability. We are a Small Business, its just my boyfriend and I, and our clients are drawn to the idea that we are no different from them. Being relevant and relatable in todays industry is what we strive for and 2 1/2 years in, I couldn’t be happier with our outcome. Recently, I’d have to say we had our proudest moment as a brand when we launched our “Give Back” Collection which consisted of a series of T-shirt designs where 15% of our total sales were donated to the Emergency Response Fund at University of Miami Health/ Miller School of Medicine. Our Final donation was over $1,000 and we were recognized by the University and featured online!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh man! Being from Miami, this is extremely hard since there is so much to do! I’d say my boyfriend would be the perfect person to answer this, he knows this city like the back of his hand and he’s a long time worker in the nightlife industry, but I think he’s taught me well. A week in Miami would consist of wandering around Wynwood, the arts district and epicenter of all things creative and tasteful. For Food, there are a couple staples such as Coyo Taco (BEST Margaritas), Grails (Sneaker-Themed sports bar), and a venue I know all too well, Gramps (Bar/ Live Music Venue). If you’re looking for some hidden Pizza treasure, inside Gramps, theres Tropical Pizza, its a must. E11even Miami, and Gold Rush would be guaranteed stops during the late night hours, where if you get hungry again, either menu will not leave you disappointed. Im also fascinated by Museums and exhibitions so the PAMM and Frost Museum in Downtown Miami would definitely be on our itineraries.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absoutely love this! My Shoutout is straight to my parents, boyfriend, Family and Friends! Papi: Thank you for being my mentor when it comes to owning a business! Mommy: Thank you for being my number one fan! When I decided to move forward with Miami Writes co., you were the first one to tell me, go for it! Chris: Every single day I always tell you thank you. Thank you for making me open my eyes and see the talent I have today. You took the leap of faith with me and knew what we could build together and here we are today! I can’t wait to see what the future hold for us and Miami Writes co! Family and Friends: Your continued support always goes recognized, from purchases to posting about us on your social media outlets. I have no other words to say, but Thank you and I truly love you all!
