We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Hart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I feel very strongly about shooting timeless images for my clients that will never go out of style. Trends are always exciting for a little while, but a wedding album needs to be able to stand the test of time. Authentic, emotional images will never ever go out of style.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I first picked up a camera in my early 20’s, a photography career wasn’t even on my mind. But I fell in love with portrait photography and couldn’t get enough. I photographed every friend who was patient enough to sit in front of my camera and eventually started creating work I was proud of. From the outside, any successful career tends to look like an overnight success, but more often than not, it’s been a ten year journey up to that point. One of the most important things I’ve learned is how to manage my business so that I can bring all of my energy to my clients and shoots, even if that means outsourcing certain tasks (hello accounting).
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Any kind of success I’ve had is a combination of work, luck, and a community of individuals who push and encourage each other along the way. Stacey Feldman, Mary Beth Tyson, & Jan Carroll are people who I’ve met through this industry and have become some of my dearest friends. They have been my “team” and I couldn’t be more grateful.
