We had the good fortune of connecting with Abdel-Karim Haddad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abdel-Karim, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons I had to learn was, always take deposits when it comes to your work because some people ask you to create before they’re actually willing to pay for the work or they could just not want the work after it’s done. So way you still at least get paid for your time

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I usually try and explain something with most of my paintings and it’s anywhere from oppression to figuring yourself out in your own world. I also try and use as much colour as I can to make it pop more. I also feel like I found a distinct style which is typically difficult for artist but I just went with a style I’m comfortable making. Acrylic paint, oil paint, paint makers, digital, and tattoos are usually the mediums I consistently use. It wasn’t easy to get to this point though. I’ve already been painting seriously for at least 10 years and doing plenty of art shows in that span. I hope this opens up some eyes for any type of artist out there

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d probably take them downtown because of the scenery & shops! Maybe like a burger place or something? I’m so bad with picking places to eat! I might even take them to the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) to check out some of the showcases going on. Then maybe to Yorkdale Mall because there’s “The Office” pop up store

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thank you to my girlfriend and our two kids 🖤
