We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Delgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The amount of work that it takes to concept and design a floral experience that doesn’t look like everyone else’s. 1) Design – It can sometimes take 6-8 hours or more to create a moodboard and color palette. This step is the most crucial to nail the perfect aesthetic that reflects who my client is. 2) Floral Purchasing – In order to get the perfect mix of florals for a wedding , I use over 5 – 6 different floral wholesalers or sources. 3) Foraging – this is a crucial step in order to get flowers and greenery that don’t look like everyone else’s. I’m constantly in the lookout for foraged goodies around the neighborhood. When I find something I like , I take pictures and when ready I’m able to track the location of these pictures and get unique finds.

There is nothing like the feeling of my clients. I get to see them at their happiest – in the morning of their weddings . They are typically getting their hair done and for most, their wedding day becomes real when they see their bouquet. I’ve worked doing many things but nothing compares to seeing a bride cry from joy. They feel heard and understood. As their ally, I was able to really listen and understand them and who they were as a couple and use my skills, to translate it into an evening that feels authentically like them. I am lucky to be able to mix my analytical side with my creative side by owning my Boutique Floral Design Studio.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Stay at the confidante , come visit Miami Beach. Have an açaí bowl at Under the Mango Tree, rent a deco bike and go around south pointe park for the most beautiful views. Stop at the beach on 1st or third street ( where the locals go) and enjoy the beach. Get a massage at the standard spa and grab some lunch there. Go have a drink at Lagniappe and finish the most lovely day ever. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Truthfully it’s my mother. Her unwavering support throughout my life allowed me to really feel very free to take the plunge into different pursuits – flowers being one of them.
