We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
We are in the field of Controlled Environment Agriculture (‘CEA’) which is an emerging sector of sustainable agriculture. There are many reasons why CEA is so important today, globally, With CEA, we can localize food systems, provide year-round production, and provide clean and safe food, We can grow for nutrients first with taste naturally following which positions many in our industry as a Food-as-Medicine movement.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Anyone that claims that ‘agriculture’ does not know true agriculture. Agriculture is one of the hardest, yet most needed, industry sectors. Agriculture doesn’t sleep, and yet we all need to eat. The Ag industry is a 24-7 operation due to living ecosystems. To enter this industry requires true passion and patience. We entered the industry to change the broken food system, to provide nutrient-rich foods to those in need, and localize food systems.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We recently moved to Miami from Central Florida. The Miami food scene is insane. The demand and appreciation for local food has made it one of the best markets for our business. I am also plant-based and the growing market for this within high-end restaurants is so exciting. You can now find options in just about every type of cuisine here. My passion is agriculture and seeing that celebrated on such a high level reminds me why I do what I do. The Redlands area is thriving with agriculture and is more on the laidback side. Then you drive to the city and the excitement is insatiable. We’ve been working with so many high-end chefs that get excited when we bring sample and/or are growing a new item.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner, Jennifer Waxman, is considered one of the leading innovators in CEA. She began in hydroponics in 2000 and is an ‘OG’ in the industry. Through her vision and innovation, she developed one of the most successful business models in CEA in Florida. This model has been celebrated by those in the industry who seek to replicate it. This has become the basis for new projects we are working on in South Florida. Further, she gives back to the industry and shares her successes, and failures, through a combination of being a top speaker at industry events, helping non-profits create sustainable agriculture, and consult for those new to the industry,
