We had the good fortune of connecting with Adita Yrizarry-Lang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adita, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business in 1986, primarily because the fitness industry was so new and options for aerobic classes and personal training were very limited. At the same time, I discovered an array of different directions I could take the business and that made it more fun, creating my own business was the way to go!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started out as a group exercise instructor back when vinyl records played the music! Since then, I have been blessed to train fitness professionals around the globe, design signature fitness programs, coach individuals to maximize their health, speak to groups about health and wellbeing, and design health clubs and resorts.
Back in 2000, I slowed down a bit to raise my kids, still keeping one foot by owning my own personal training studio. In 2017, I divorced and jumped right back in as an international speaker. During this time I also wrote 2 books, SuperPowers, A Busy Woman’s Guide to Health and Happiness and SuperPowers of the Family Kitchen, and lead corporate wellness programs world-wide.
I believe that all challenges lead to greater success. My path has not been easy but I have learned and grown along the way, making me better today than I was yesterday.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly, I love to cook, and I am pretty particular about my food selections, but for those moment to indulge I would have breakfast at Delicias de Espania and lunch or dinner at Plant Miami.
Some of my favorite places to wonder around and share with friends are Wynwood Walls, Kampong Botanical Gardens, and Upper Buena Vista.
Since Miami is so diverse a visit to a few cigar making shops on 8th street and a meal at Versailles is also a must on the agenda, as it sets this city apart from the rest of the US. Then to bring us back to “healthy” we would stop at the Glasser Farms Farmers Market in Coconut Grove for some yummy foods and snacks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Life has so many ups and downs, and the one phrase that has always stayed with me is that “it takes a village”. Throughout my career I have had so many amazing mentors, cheerleaders, and inspirations. Between my family, colleagues, and friends, I have received all of the help anyone could ask for. The list is extensive and I am blessed to have so many amazing people in my village. On the flip side, I thrive on positivity and inspiration, watching motivational speeches and interview from such greats as Mel Robbins, Jay Shetty, Les Brown, and so many others, helps to keep me driven and on a positive note so that I can also share it with those around me.
