Meet Aimee Robles | Kinderart Class Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aimee Robles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aimee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always worked with children since I graduated high school and I wanted to create a program that would focus on the individuality of each child. I think back to when I was growing up and remembered how much I loved doing arts and crafts in summer camp and after school and wanted to bring that element to my classes. The arts have so many benefits for children as well such as motor skills, language development and more. These are all the elements I wanted to bring into my program.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My own personal artwork is about feelings, I try to focus on what I feel in that moment and that is also what I want to bring to the children in my classes. We all have so much pent up at times that I do believe that art is a great way to express yourself when it could be hard to use words. My main focus is to allow my students to learn how to express themselves while creating unique artwork.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In the Miami area I would say Bayview is a good time and there is so much to do there. There is something for everyone, as well as the museums like Frost Science, Perez Art Musuem, and Jungle Island . However, I am more familiar with the Fort Lauderdale/Oakland Park area and there I would say Broskis Ciderworks, Cheffery Eats Food Truck in Boca, Funky Buddha, Tenth Level Tavern, The Butcher’s Barrel, Fat Boys BBQ, Broward Center for Performing Arts, Escape-topia.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to shoutout my dear friend Angela. She has been such a huge inspiration and great mentor during this entire process. She owns Art in Oakland Park, and she has steered me in the right direction, even to this day. Of course, I would also shoutout my family for being very supportive during this whole process as well. They knew that I wanted to do something for myself and something that felt fulfilling and actually made a difference in the communities I work with. As I continue to grow with my business, I am very grateful for those who have been there since day one.
