We had the good fortune of connecting with Albert Vargas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Albert, what do you attribute your success to?
When I first started Alvademy and Didoctorio, I knew it was going to be a difficult task. Not only because when you’re working on your own companies you have to constantly multitask in a variety of areas, but because I was also going to keep my regular job. I’m still running my businesses and working at my regular job. I have been able to manage my companies in my free time and I have people and a team of experts and professionals working with me as well. I believe that teamwork, passion, enthusiasm, perseverance, attention to detail, among other things, have been some of the factors that have helped my businesses succeed. It hasn’t been an easy task but it has certainly been a rewarding experience. I am hoping for a rewarding future for my businesses as they continue to grow. I believe everything is possible when you dream and envision it. I’d like to share my experience with all the people that are launching their own companies. I’d like to tell you, if you’re reading this, that you can do it. Do not give up! Go for whatever dream you have. In the end, you will realize that whatever you do for you is always a rewarding experience. Even in failure, there are valuable lessons to be learned. Your journey is a learning curve. I hope this motivates you to begin your entrepreneurial journey.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am very proud of being where I am today. It hasn’t been a “pleasure cruise”, of course. But this journey has taught me that sometimes, failure is still a good thing to have in your life. If there was no failure, things would be very different nowadays. The secret is to drive forward, no matter how many times you fail. If you don’t do what you dream, you’re wasting your time and life. I am working for my dreams, and that makes me proud, excited, and tired at the same time. But, it’s a rewarding experience because everything I do is for me and my “babies” (i.e., my businesses).
I have overcome the challenges of my own companies by being dedicated, by not sleeping enough, and by multitasking. Teaching full time and going home to teach more hours online. I manage my companies in the little time I have left after work. It has been my perfectionism, dedication, perseverance, discipline, organization skills, sacrificing time with family and friends, among other things, that have brought me to where I am now. I would like to be successful with much less effort, but this is not how this works. I believe that success can be reached with all the skills I just mentioned plus the love of what you’re doing.
If you think you are capable of treating your businesses as your own babies, then you’re ready to have a business. If you are ready to give your own businesses everything you have in you, you are ready to launch whatever you have in mind.
I hope this gives you, whoever you are, an idea of what your own business will be like when you launch it. I hope this opens the eyes of many people that are launching their own startups. It’s going to be a long journey but don’t think about it that much. Just go for it. You’ll learn many things just because you’re doing it. I hope you reach success and, most of all, that you are happy doing whatever dream you may have in life.
I’ve learned a lot of things but the main one is to treat everyone with respect. Everyone is different and especially if you treat people from all over the world, you have to be respectful of everybody’s points of view, cultures, religions, and ways of thinking.
Another thing I’ve learned along the way is to be patient. Not everything will be as fast as you think or want it to be. You have to learn to keep going no matter how long it takes. Companies are like babies. If you continue nourishing your babies, sooner or later they’re going to grow and they will give you many accomplishments and things to be proud of. Just be patient. Everything will come at the right time and place.
I want the world to know that my life has been better just because of my businesses and my language teaching career. When I was younger, I always said I didn’t want to become a teacher. And here I am, a language teacher who is passionate about it. Never say never.
When you find something you do without thinking about how much money it’s going to give you, I think that’s when you have found your vocation and calling in life. Being a language teacher is not what I do, it’s who I am. I am very happy I found my calling in life. I hope you find yours.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve lived in Miami since 2014. One of the things I like about Miami is the variety of things you can do here. If I had one of my best friends here for one week, I would definitely take them to the beaches, night clubs, and restaurants. One of my favorite restaurants in Miami is Red Lobster. I always order the lobster tail, coconut shrimps, and their delicious Sunset Passion Colada. Another restaurant that is in my top list is ‘Alma Mexicana’. I am Mexican and if you like authentic Mexican food, you should go to this restaurant. Order ‘Al Pastor Tacos’ (put green sauce on them if you like your food spicy), ‘Horchata’ (a delicious Mexican drink), and chips.
If you want to go shopping, you should go to ‘Bayside Marketplace’. It is a great place to go shopping if you come here as a tourist. They have lots of souvenirs. There are many boat tours due to their location on the marina. You should take the star island boat tour if you would like to see the celebrity mansions and take a relaxing ride along the Miami Bay area.
Another must-to-go place if you want to walk around, go shopping, and eat something delicious is Lincoln Road. It is located in Miami Beach and it is full of restaurants, shops, and even a cinema.
Don’t forget to go to the beach of course. Miami Beach has a lot of beaches. The one that is the most popular is located on Ocean Drive between 14th and 5th Streets. It is called Lummus Park. Go there if you like to sunbathe and see many people. It is usually packed.
If you come to Miami, you must at least go to one of the places I’ve just recommended.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition in your story?
There have been many people that I’d like to thank but the main ones are my parents. I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without their help. I remember my mom always took me to my classes and my dad supported me financially. It was their love and teamwork that made me the person I am today. I’m from a Mexican origin and family is very important to us. I’ve always been very close to my parents and I have always appreciated their efforts to give me everything without expecting anything in return. I wish I could be as generous as they are because they have always been that way. They are role models for me. They are generous and good-hearted people. For that, I’ve always looked up to them.
I also consider my team of experts and professionals a great asset to my businesses. A business can grow better when you have the ideas, input, expertise, and direction from more than one person. In my case, I have been gratefully blessed with a team of wonderful people that I’m always going to be thankful to. I won’t say names because I don’t want to forget anyone but all the team that has been in my companies, Alvademy and Didoctorio, please know that I’m infinitely grateful to whatever you have contributed to my companies. I consider my companies my babies and without your help, I wouldn’t have been able to nourish my babies and they wouldn’t be the way they are now. I am grateful to all of you.
I am also grateful to all of my clients. They have been the ones that have believed in me and my companies. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to continue. I am always happy to see my clients and the people that are there supporting my businesses. My businesses need their help to continue growing. I am thankful to you for believing in and trusting me. I hope we can continue doing business with you for many years to come.
Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
That’s a difficult question to answer. As I said before, I have many people I am thankful to and would like to include in this answer. But, I’ll just mention 3 to be brief.
I am very thankful to ArtNan and Atlantis Aviation. These companies have believed in me and my business for a long time. They have trusted Alvademy and me to teach students from all over the world. I would like to give credit to them because without their faith in me, I would have not met many incredible people. Being a language teacher opens you the world to meet people from all around the world. I have met people from many places and countries because of these clients and I’m immensely grateful to them. I hope our business relationship grows more and more with the passing of the years. ArtNan and Atlantis Aviation really deserve a shoutout from me, especially Arturo Weiss who has been an inspiring leader in my teaching career. I am blessed to have learned many things from him. For that reason, I’d like to say thank you, Arturo, for all of your advice, collaboration, work, and for being a part of my professional development.
I am also very thankful to one of my most loyal customers, a student that has become a very special person in my life. Her name is Veronika Karaffova. She has been my student since 2016. I began teaching her at a different language school but she continued having classes with me after she graduated from the school where I taught her English. She has been with me since the beginning of Alvademy and is still one of my students, friends, and a very important part of my company and life. One of the things I like about my job is that some of my students become my friends. She is one of them. We traveled to Dubai in 2022 and we have plans to travel somewhere else in 2023. I am truly grateful to God and life for putting her in my life. A student that has become a very special friend and that I consider a part of my family. A friend I hope will last forever. So, I guess the key to success is not how much money, how many followers, or how famous you are, but to be happy at whatever you’re doing. My biggest success in life is my happiness, my family, and friends. I hope you find all of them too. Maybe you have them already. You can be successful every day of your life by doing what makes you happy and by spending time with the ones you love.
