Meet Alex McCrary | Artist/ Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex McCrary and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Like most people, music has been apart of my life since the beginning. From school choir performances to a full fledge concert, i enjoy listening & at times find myself appreciating the artistry. There are so many inspiring artists, it’s hard to narrow down favorites. We all have different walks of life. Music brings us closer together and so i decided to share a bit of my walk of life with everyone through music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being an independent artist, I’m mostly proud about my growth. Nothing about making music is easy. Through repetition & hard work, i was able to push myself higher & higher to be bigger & better. The best lesson I’ve learned is to keep the music separate! It’s cool to share your music, it’s cool to toss around ideas. But i believe we lose a part of our raw ability to create by diluting it with opinions of others. Sometimes artist succumb to pressure or depression & trick themselves into believing they should say this or sound like that. It’s best to keep your business & your personal separate at all times!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Memphis is a great tourist attraction. Downtown will always be a place to mention for entertainment. Great Blues mixed along with the sweet savory smell of ribs in the air, it’s hard to not come see what the fuss is all about. The FedEx forum is the heart beat of downtown, which is why it’s centered around some great restaurants & a great bar such as Wet Willie’s. There are a ton of other things to do here in Memphis, All you need is time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
At this point in time I’d like to shout out my father. Though we may not have had the best relationship growing up, I’ve enjoyed having the chance to change that. From new things to a brush up on old lessons, this experience has been the catalyst i needed for my growth as a man.
