We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Morrissey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk and I… we’ve been at it for a while but if one thing is for certain, it’s necessary in all aspects of life. It’s needed in business, in relationships, in partnerships — without it, you then tend to “play it safe” which can make you monotonous and with no change. But risk gives you some changes: try something new; it can work or can not work but in your life, in your career, how will you know if you don’t risk it? If you don’t make any changes? And if you’re asking yourself after that: what do you risk? Well you risk your money, your time, and while it can lead to failure, taking a calculated risk is always based on measuring the pros and cons!
So risk has played many roles for my company and I, but I have never regretted taking the plunge. It plays an important role in all businesses, with my clients, with trying new services. And after 3 months, I do an evaluation and then make a shift if needed and I recommend everyone to do this.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I would like to say what sets me apart from others, is my thought process. I offer services that I can also physically & mentally do in case all else fails, which I also find to be a benefit and allows me to learn constantly and learn while my staff also learns. I enjoy teaching my staff tricks and trades,
I’m excited about ESIROM growing and becoming more internet based; It’s not stagnant, something is always changing and progressing so I’m excited to see how ideas come to life, especially for my staff and for my clients, when we present something and it works — that’s a reward! It’s proof of concept and continues to push us.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
Don’t stress. As simple as it is, lol, don’t stress! I’ve grown my company so that it has its own personality.. so it’s not me. I am in charge of it but I don’t let it consume me. I set boundaries with my business and I treat it like a growing relationship.
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
1/Separate the business from yourself.. so you should be able to turn off and on and remove emotions when needed.
2/You can be passionate but don’t think personally about it. Let the passion thrive you.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My story is not unique. Everyone has a different environment and blueprint system so, create your own story and output! Don’t be focused on the ‘Bill Gates’ & ‘Steve Jobs’ in and around you — learn from their lessons and mistakes but don’t aim to become them and sway from your visions.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First up – we would travel to any location that has a terrible cell phone reception! Lol. Why? So that we are not focused on social media, or calls and messages – but rather being in the moment. That is very important. So I’d find places with trees, rivers or beaches. It would be for time to relax and get to know our island and each other.
Next up, we’d go anywhere that has authentic food! Our cuisine is amazing and we have a wide variety so would definitely end up a few amazing food stops along the way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all my staff for riding with #TeamEsirom everyday and going above and beyond!
Shoutout to my family, friends, our partners and our clients who have been supporting #TeamESIROM in and around the last 6 years.
Shoutout to the books that have helped me to hone in on my business goals; I try to read one book a month – indulging in books about people running businesses, about tech, about surviving.
