We had the good fortune of connecting with Carly Ristuccia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carly, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success? What are you most proud of?
One of the parts of my art business I’m most proud of would be my mission to be environmentally friendly. I design on repurposed vinyl records as my main canvas. I love the nostalgia of records and am a huge music fan. However, sustainably speaking, they are not produced very environmentally friendly. They are made with a plastic known as polyvinyl chloride which is non-recyclable. This really only leaves records to be passed down or donated. Being able to repurpose and give another use to records as part of my business I think is one of the coolest parts!
Please tell us more about your work. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’ve had to overcome so many challenges on my journey as an artist. I’ve really learned more than anything, to trust and enjoy the process. I never knew where this business could take me, and have yet to figure out where it will, so it’s all just a process of growth and opportunity. I’ve read so many books, listened to podcasts, and taken advice from mentors to get me to where I am, but at the end of the day you really only have yourself to trust and to put in the work…so I’ve had to really build my mindset and confidence!
Carlys Vinyls is a form of repurposed vinyl record art. It is considered mixed media as it includes painting, graphic design and even a little glitter! The business has taught me so much and showed me where my true passions lie. I love everything art and music and this business includes that all in one! I love getting to connect with other music passionate and creative people. Custom orders are a way I get to feel so close to my customers and understand where music and art has helped them in their lives
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people I could shout out as being so supportive and encouraging in this journey. One I’d like to mention is a lady named Cindy at Global Thrift Store. She has really taken the time to invest in me and my business and it means the world. Additionally, every person that has ever designed a custom piece with me, or bought an original or even just messaged me something encouraging- I hold you so close to my heart.
