We had the good fortune of connecting with Alex Rosales and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alex, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
I did not play by the rules. I dropped out of high school when I was a sophomore in high school, because at an early age, I knew that traditional school learning was not going to take me to the heights I aspired to reach. I worked the jobs that nobody seemed interested in and I was competitive when I provided estimates. I, like most, had bills to pay and I had a 9-5 job doing low voltage and audio visual work, and after work, I went to see the small jobs people called me for and worked 6-11pm on many nights including working at all hours during my days off. The one thing I made a habit of was stepping out of the comfort zone that school and society taught us to stay within, I was not afraid to make my own rules in order to achieve my goals.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am an electrician and have been learning the trade since I was a teen. I focus on marine electrical work, custom lighting and homes, but I also work doing service calls, repairs, troubleshooting and commercial work. I am the most proud of the growth I have achieved with very little capital and despite the hurdles that I have overcome. I am where I am today because I put in the work, because I had a mentor (my father) that taught me and continues to guide me when I come across a doubt, and because I was willing to compete in an industry full of sharks even when I appeared to be a tadpole. Nothing worth recognition comes easily, so I would definitely say it was a challenge and continues to be a challenge with all of the change, innovation and competition that there is; that’s the thrill of this industry. The most valuable lesson that I have learned is that business is strictly business, there is always someone that is willing to do what the other person won’t do so you have to take risks and you have to work hard and do what no other would do to achieve greatness. I would like the world to know that trades are essential, electricians are essential; society needs us and we need our communities in order to thrive, in order to continue innovation and to progress as humans.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Contrary to many that are proud Miami residents, I prefer the back country. I enjoy fishing the flats and the wildlife South Florida has to offer and I find it amazing to see how the ecosystem continues to sustain not just itself, but also humanity even though the odds are sometimes against wildlife. I think the most exciting thing about our city is the diversity that it has to offer, we are a melting pot and are made up of so many backgrounds; this is what you also find when you explore the Everglades National Park, however, instead of it being a melting pot of people, it’s a diverse ecosystem that uses each other to sustain itself and gives life to our city in what I consider an underrated way.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My grandfather, may he rest in peace, taught my father everything about working a trade. My father, Rolando Rosales, taught me what I know today and continues to guide me throughout life. It is because of them two that I was able to grow into the electrician, business owner and man I am today.
