We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Camero and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mark, why did you pursue a creative career?
Ever since I was young I would always build my own city with my Lego set. I would always try and create the most unique designs the Lego’s allowed me to make. Fast forward a couple years and I always found myself asking for pencils and sketchbooks to design everything from new sneakers to stadiums and arenas. It wasn’t till high school where I went to a technical school when I had to choose a “profession”. Here is where I chose architectural drafting, it was from this point in my life that I knew what I wanted to do. Never before have I been looking forward to homework and presenting my assignment to the class. To leave my mark on the world and to create something derived from my head and have others enjoy it, is what drives me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work for the department of state in a division called Overseas Building Operations where a team of people and myself ensure the integrity and design of US Embassy’s across the world meet the government standards to sustain safe occupancy for 50 years. I do this this while starting up my own independent architectural design business.

My start up firm, “CameroAnthony” is an architectural design firm focusing now on interior renovations to residential homes but is not limited to any restrictions. I pride myself on making the design process for clients an easy and stress free one where they can see their vision come to life. Believing that nice design doesn’t always have to be expensive, I focus on modern designs that are affordable and within budget.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Having recently moved to Washington DC / Virginia, I’d say visiting the Lincoln Mall and museums is a must! To grab a bite to eat, there’s nothing classier than going down to Old Town VA and walking down the strip until one of the restaurants smell catches your nose.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
John Perez of PRZ Design Build firm. Was my first real architectural job at a firm.

He took the time to mentor me and teach me things many others never take the time to. It’s because of him that I feel I have a sense of organization and method to the madness that is creating and designing.
