We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexa Carlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During my early days as a professional public speaker, I started to notice a big disconnect among women as I was speaking more and more around the country at women’s events. I noticed how separated and segmented off each event was when it came to the demographic of people in attendance. I’d always be speaking at evens that just had millennial women in the audience or women older in their career or part of a certain industry. Each person I met at these events would share their dreams and goals with me and I always had someone local in mind to connect them with that I realized they didn’t know because the events they attended never ventured away from their own demographic. I thought, how much change can we create if we just connect and collaborate with diverse women from different walks of life? All different ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and in different industries. That was the beginning moment when the idea for Women Empower X started to form… I wanted to create the most diverse and inclusive community and event series for women in business. One where women came to share not just what they do but who they are so we can all truly find the courage to connect more vulnerably and authentically.

What should our readers know about your business?
Anything meaningful in life is going to be scary, but that’s the key you must pursue it! I believe that if you have a dream that keeps you up at night and wakes you up in the morning it is there for a reason, and you must not ignore it. This was the case for me… it has most definitely not been easy but it’s 100% been worth it. What sets Women Empower X apart from any other company is our energy we infuse into it. Energy is contagious and we are very mindful of the kind we are spreading. Through our events both in-person and virtual and our online membership community, we empower women with the energy needed to truly thrive. Key lessons I’ve learned along my journey: 1. Confidence and energy are like pixie dust to your business! 2. Always focus on the things you DO have control over. 3. Be resourceful- use what you’ve got to make it happen and… you must not wait for your life to change you must change your own life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m dedicating my shout out to my mom, Susan Carlin. She’s been by my side through it all, from my first business hand making denim bedazzled bracelets to sitting with me for hours at farmer’s market to help me promote my blog to providing me with the support and confidence to never give up.
