Meet Alexandra and Alexey Minkin-Dugarte | Digital Creators from Un Par de Ales

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra and Alexey Minkin-Dugarte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra and Alexey, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
As a couple in a multicultural marriage, our backgrounds, cultures and nationalities have had a huge impact in our lives. I (Alexandra) was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and my husband Alexey was born in Menzelinsk, Russia. Even though these two countries and traditions are far from similar, we were both raised in the world and culture of dance, so merging our lives and accepting each other was not as complicated as one can imagine. Ballet has offered us the possibility to tour the world from a very young age, and to have had the opportunity to visit so many different countries while doing what we loved was one of the most challenging, yet fulfilling experiences of our lives. Having lived in different countries, together and apart, has been rewarding in many aspects; we are now both fluent in three languages, we have met a lot of wonderful people and have a lot of friends throughout the world. It has helped us be more understanding and welcoming of other people’s cultures and ideals, and it has also inspired us to reach a broader audience that goes beyond one theater in one city. It has inspired us to dance and connect with millions of people around the world. It’s incredible to think that we have now almost half a million friends on YouTube!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
When we are creating videos we always try to come up with ideas that are simple but clever. Ideas are by far the most time consuming step while creating content in our opinion. We create our videos at home, on a tight budget and with no professional help. It’s just us having fun in our apartment with one camera, one ring light and an open imagination. Our journey to get to where we are today was definitely not an easy one, so we are incredibly proud and grateful of where we are today. It was years creating hundreds of videos and we felt we were constantly hitting a wall. Even though that time was definitely frustrating, we always had faith that our hard work would pay off, so we kept creating content, learning new things and believing in ourselves and our work. I think that in this industry you have to be your own biggest critic and cheerleader.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What we love about Miami is that it’s a place full of different cultures and traditions, so we think its a great opportunity to embrace that and have an authentic cuban cortadito in Calle Ocho, the best arepas of your life (which are the Venezuelan ones by the way), get some Brazilian brigadieros for dessert, and dance the night away at Ball and Chain.
We would 100% recommend watching the sunrise in Miami Beach, waking up early can be hard, it can be such an energizing experience, go for a walk at Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove, go strawberry picking at Knaus Berry Farm in Homestead where you can also try the best cinnamon buns you’ll ever try or go for a picnic in Crandon Park.
We can’t forget about going to the theater to watch Dimensions Dance Theater of Miami’s shows, since Alexey works with them when he’s not creating videos at home with me.
There is so much to do here in Miami, and so many interesting places to visit. The possibilities are endless.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s hard to choose just one person to dedicate our shoutout to, so instead we are going to list a few: First and foremost our families, both in Venezuela and in Russia. They introduced us to the world of the arts and have been our biggest cheerleaders since we were kids in ballet school and even after we decided to move across the world to pursue our dreams. Second, our ballet teachers. They taught us the importance of discipline and perseverance. Our journey on social media has not been an easy one, there were many times we wanted to give up. But honestly… if we could survive a Russian ballet school, we can survive anything. And lastly we want to dedicate this to all of our supporters on social media. To all the people that watch and enjoy our videos. Their support is what fuels and inspires us to keep creating content and sharing our lives with them.
