Meet Alexandra Camacho | Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Camacho and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
In the midst of a pandemic, on the recovery end of my mom’s cancer diagnosis, our mother-daughter(s) passion for love, food, business and creating proved to be a recipe for success. My mom has been baking and the matriarch of creativity for as long as I can remember. Her delicious food and sweets have been celebrated over every family gathering and when the pandemic and a cancer scare ripped through our home we found comfort in working together, creating fun ways to cook, and snack on our favorite treats like CAKE!
It was then Cake in a Jar became the center of our new business venture! Who doesn’t want to eat cake out of a Jar watching your favorite series or movie, pack it for lunch, send it to someone you love. So we hope to bring not just delicious desserts, but love and fun memories to every home and space that indulges in our creations .

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pound for Pound Cake’s mission is to provide delicious and decadent baked goods to our customers that are so wow worthy it creates an experience they will never forget. We Specialize in a non conventional way of eating cake, which is out of jar. Our business takes cake to another level of deliciousness and convenience. It’s the easiest way to indulge in your favorite flavors of cake and store right back in the fridge to enjoy anywhere, anytime. From the different layers to the explosion of flavors we set our importance on cultivating a gourmet experience. We are most excited about opening our own location we currently are partnered with a few local bakeries in Miami on of them being Taste Bakery but we look forward to creating a space of our own that truly represents our business, style and full experience.
The climb to where we are now was definitely not easy and till this day we are figuring it out one step at a time. I always knew I wanted to own my own business as I enjoy the process of building a helping something grow. My Biggest advice would be to come to terms that challenges will appear but set your mind on giving up is not an option. I also think creating a team that is willing to go though the trenches with you and celebrate the small and big moments makes this uncharted journey for us a lot more enjoyable.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that there is room for everyone. What I mean by that is there will be people and companies that may have the same product, flavor, ideas, marketing as you, BUT ITS NOT YOU!There is room for everyone to succeed and no market is over saturated as each person is going to bring their own individuality so don’t let that stop you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
– Sunrise on Miami beach – Breakfast at Cafe Bistro best drinks and brunch in town
– walking the strip is a must
– Taco Stand in Wynwood for lunch! The elote and California Burrito are everything!
-Hanging out at El Patio for drinks and music
-The Frost museum or Wynwood walls
-UCHI! Best restaurant in Miami hands down! A true gourmet sushi experience

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Pound for Pound would be nothing without my team. I can remember long nights, early mornings, months with out pay and the determination from us all “that this could be something.” First my mom, the creator of the recipes and the glue that keeps us going when things get tough. My younger sister who believed in her crazy sister’s dream and took position as head baker, there is no P4P with out her. My roommate and best friend who also left his job to support our company in every way from events, markets, shopping, literally my left hand . Last but not least my fiancé who keeps me sane through it all, he is the muscle and the finance manager to all that we do. Without each one of them, Pound for Pound would have just been an Idea that never came to fruition.
