We had the good fortune of connecting with Alf Palacios Dickudt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alf, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It was many years ago, in Miami, in front of the sea, that I first had the thought of setting up my own business; it was a key moment in my life. I wanted to be able to relive that moment forever, to work from my computer on the seashore whenever I wanted, owning my time and my space, following my passion for design and branding.

Everything in this life takes time, we all need to mature, learn, experiment. To appreciate good design, as well as good wine and good food, one must train the eye to recognize a good branding campaign,
understanding the strategy behind it, looking at details, taking photos, analyzing icons, forms, patterns; everything takes time.

It took me more than two decades in companies like MTV, FOX and DISNEY to understand that behind a brand there are people, with hearts, with ideologies, who come from different countries and cultures, all that is what contributes to making a brand human, different, a brand that reaches millions of people.

Deciding to leave the corporate world to pursue my dream was not easy, it was definitely a scary thought… leaving my comfort zone was very difficult. I believe the passion I had to do something of my own built up over the years, and I knew that the day would come. I took advantage of every moment, I learned from everything, from each meeting, from each person, from each lesson, from each trip and from each heart.

In this life, each stage takes time to mature, I can say that mine reached its point, I set a date, I put my soul, I put all my heart, I found my passion and started my own path.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I wouldn’t use the word easy or hard, but long. It’s been a long journey. It almost feels like every step I’ve made in my life and every situation I have been in has shifted me and pushed me every time closer towards what is now Leaf Happy Co, my Branding Studio. I think Leaf Happy was born just at the right time.

I want to believe that what sets me apart from others is that I treat people’s dreams like they were my own. It’s not about making a couple of designs, studying the market and bon voyage, good luck. I get as excited as my clients with every milestone and victory they achieve, I believe in their dreams, I stay in touch, I keep working for them in new projects and I even have clients that have given me their services too! It’s about forming an alliance with people, keeping the wheel spinning.
I genuinely want people to succeed and find the happiness we all long for.
With so many brands out there, you need to change the game, stand out and do good.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There is so much culture, food, sunlight, and smiles that one never gets bored in Mexico City. I would recommend the Coyoacan neighborhood, an artist’s town with many colors and flavors. Also go to the park, the church, and the mercadito.

I would also take you to El Centro Histórico. We could walk around the Palace of Fine Arts, The Monument of the Revolution, and then walk towards the Angel of Independence in Reforma Avenue.
If you are a bit religious we could visit the Cathedral and the Basilica of Guadalupe too.

If you’re looking for a good place to eat, I recommend Plantasia (http://www.plantasia.cafe/), an awesome plant-based Asian restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I believe I cannot mention just one person or organization, I need to admit that my life has been an assortment of love, care, affection, happiness, laughter and sorrow, of pleasant and unpleasant experiences, of lessons I have taken from life. Everything we experience adds up and makes us who we are.

I have known people I will always remember, who have been role models to me, who have crossed my path on purpose to leave me something valuable, who have passed by and never crossed my path again but forever remain in my heart.

My gratitude goes out to my family, to my friends, to the managers and coaches for all the good, for the not so good, because we are only small parts by which we become humans, and I look forward to seeing and experiencing more in the future.
