We had the good fortune of connecting with Alice Coutet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alice, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I love the whole process of creating artwork, from sketching an idea, seeing it come to life, and then viewing and sharing the completed artwork. It’s the only space in life where there are no rules and you’re free to create whatever you want. Sheilagh Head, a fellow Bermudian artist, once said to me ‘Alice, paint whatever you want, you’re the artist. There is freedom in art!’
I have many different styles in my portfolio: faith based, realism, portraits, contemporary, architectural, landscapes, cityscapes, Bermuda scenes etc. I want to continue to create artwork through these styles that inspires, motivates, and provides hope to all that view. I want to use my art and my talent as a platform to let people know that Jesus Loves them. I really want to create more Bible scene paintings in the future. I completed a painting about Daniel’s Faith: It’s the face of a lion, and in the lions eye’s you can see an Angel shutting the lion’s mouth so that Daniel is protected in the Lion’s den. So many people were inspired by this painting which served as a reminder to continue to have faith. Throughout life we may not see the angel’s shutting the lion’s mouths but it does happen. God provides miracles every day.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Please tell us more about your art. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others,
My artwork comes in various styles, techniques, mediums and themes. I want my artwork to give an emotion to the viewer, to invite them to insert themselves in the piece, to inspire them to create and to give then a sense of hope.
what you are most proud of or excited about.
I am passionate about what I do! I love creating pieces for everyone, clients, myself and most importantly my purpose is to create pieces that tell of Jesus’ love.
How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy?
I am where I am today because God has opened doors for me. It wasn’t always easy, the commitment is huge but I’ve enjoyed it!
If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
The challenges were finding the time for my passion whilst running a big household, being wife, mother, and working full time. I painted through the night., and sacrificed time in other places. Sometimes household projects just had to wait!
What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
If you want something, ask God. Matthew 7:7 says it. Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My purpose is to create artwork that shows God’s love and glory and gives the viewer hope. That’s the story I need to share with the talent that God has given me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Where I’m from the best time had with my best friend would you be to go paddle boarding in the cerulean sea, then lounging on the beach. We would laugh until our cheeks hurt because paddle boarding would be hilarious! We would barely be able yo stand up! We could then have a delicious brunch at a luxurious hotel, followed by a massage and facial at the spa. Best day ever!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My passion cannot happen without the support or my immediate family, extended family and supportive friends, to them I extend my sincere thanks. To everyone else that enjoys and , is inspired by my artwork I truly appreciate your support also.
