We had the good fortune of connecting with Alina Poloboc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alina, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
There are so many things that makes me happy. For example spending time with my family, playing games, cooking and just chilling. Nothing is more important in this world than my family and people that I love. Another thing that makes me happy is painting, I am so lucky that I can do what I love and enjoy the proccess.
Also I love to travel, and nothing can be better to discover the world, different cultures, traditions and meet new people from all around.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I paint in two absolutely different styles. One is abstract and the other is figurative. I am passionate about ballet, and that is why I paint ballerinas and use the colors black, white and a little dark blue. As far as the materials I use, I like to work on canvas and large-sized cotton paper. In the abstract style, I give freedom to my imagination and just express what I feel. I use a lot of blue practically in all my creations, I am obsessed with this color, which gives me the feeling of strength, hope and freedom.
Each collection that I create is unique. Every 4 to 5 months I present a new collection of paintings. I like to surprise myself and those around me with something new and my style is constantly evolving. This way I don’t get bored doing the same style over and over again.
I am very proud of the fact that once I set a goal, I don’t let anything stand in my way until I accomplish it. Even if the task seems daunting, I never give up!
I never imagined that I would be an artist. I worked in television for several years in Moldova, the country where I was born. In 2014 I decided to move to Italy, where I lived for 2 years and started dedicating more time to painting. I was painting for pleasure, until I moved to Spain to the island paradise of Palma de Mallorca in 2016. There I lived for 6 years. This was the place where my professional artistic career really started to take off. During this period, I organized over 11 exhibitions and painted over 150 oil paintings.
As far as challenges are concerned, I can’t say that it was easy to start. However, when you do everything with passion and have a lot of patience, you end up getting results after some time. From the beginning, I didn’t have big sales, but I continued to do what makes me happy, even if sometimes I ended up with no money to pay the rent. All the money I got from sales later on, I always reinvested in paint and other materials.
The hardest thing for an artist is to be able to sell your work as easily as you create them. You must have a special talent or ability to do this.
The most important thing I learned during my artistic period is to never stop experimenting with new techniques, to not be afraid to express myself on the canvas and to appreciate my work. I also learned to be proud that my style is different from others and not to be affected by the criticism of others.
I would like to be able to encourage as many young people as possible who are thinking of starting an artistic career. You need a lot of patience, courage and self-confidence. But the most important thing is not to lose your passion for what makes you truly happy. And if this is the painting, don’t give in. Just move forward, always be surrounded by people who inspire and encourage you, be happy and help others if you can. Good always comes back!!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Miami all artists should go and spend some time walking around Wynwood. There are also many museums and art galleries to go see. The sunsets are magical and the beaches are very beautiful. If you have time, the Florida Keys all the way to Key West are a fun drive.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank all the people I have met throughout my life. To those who believed in me and encouraged, helped and guided me in the world of art. Also to those who believed less in me, because thanks to these people, I was motivated to go further and fulfill my dreams and prove to myself that I can.
