We had the good fortune of connecting with Kisha Cadet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kisha, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I am a spiritual person. So my favorite quote comes from the bible. It is Jeremiah 29:11 “ “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
This quote/verse means so much to me. I lost my father at a young age & have went through alot of growing pains up until my early 20s. Some of the things I have been through I question God why me. Why did you choose me to go through grief, loss and etc. Why can’t it be someone else? I may not understand anything that I am growing or going through at the moment, but I know there is a purpose for everything. I know my story is still being written as I go through the days of living. This verse gives me the reassurance that no matter what I may face or go through, he has a plan in place for me. Not to harm or break, although that is what I feel most of my days, but not all of my days are like that. I know that when everything comes full circle, I will understand why I had to go through so many tests. The amount of tests that I go through is only a greater testimony to come forth for me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I think was that’s me apart from others is my journey. I am a full-time student pursuing a career in medicine and some people don’t believe that I could simply do both. I believe I was created for both. Who says you can’t do both? God has given me the ability to do both and I’m going to do continue to do both! I never limiting myself in what I believe I could do.
I don’t believe creating KALM was easy, it was a very tiring process to find a manufacturer someone that could possibly help me in creating pieces. I like to think that it was meant to be when I happened to be on Anifa’s live one day and she happen to mention her first fashion business course that is an open to the public just yet. I went ahead and shot an email and signed up for the business course and was all ears & eager to learn. From that course in on she became my first manufacture for my designs.
My step-dad invested about $11,000 into my business. With that I created my built in studio, purchased lighting, a professional camera and did everything myself. I was the web designer, marketer, photographer, model, handling packaging & shipping and also customer service rep all while in a rigorous masters program trying to pursue medicine. I’ve been in business for 8 months now and I have learned so much from my mistakes. As I am getting closer to going off to medical school, I do plan on hiring a directing manager for my business & hopefully having my own space for shipping and handling!
How KALM really came about, I have always loved dressing up and wearing custom dresses for special events. I’ve always love the idea of what if I were to wear my own clothing to special occasions & events. I create luxury pieces for all women with unique lifestyles. Klassairé A La Mode is a luxury womenswear label that gives you an experience of fashion and elegance. Each luxury piece is designed and sewn with unique detail. Strength, sophistication and elegance is what you will embody when wearing K.A.L.M. I guarantee wearing KALM will make you feel sexy, sophisticated & all eyes on you when you walk into the room.
One thing I want people to take away from my story is to not look to the left or to the right. Run the race God has called you to. Good things take time. Don’t limit yourself. & always follow your passions. It will be worth it and feel rewarding in the end.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, I would take her to a Black Owned upscale restaurant called Bar One Miami Beach.
Visit Victory Miami for brunch. Bar Rita in Fort Lauderdale for taco Tuesday.
I would say we could go to the mall, museum, & miami district or Wynwood to take pictures of course.
I would say we could go to the beach and soak up the sun by the water. Go to hooters after the beach for some wings and margarita’s possibly!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom and step-dad have always supported me in my dreams and always gave me that push to do anything I want to be.
My cousin, Wendy, & best friend/soul sister, Quiniya. They have been there since the beginning of Klassairé A La Mode and I named some of my pieces after them.
Lastly, Anifa Mvuemba , fashion designer of Hanifa. She was able to manufacture my entire first collection and I was apart of her first fashion business course before officially lunching the program. Her team, especially Yesmin Anthony, has been supportive in the entire process of Klassairé since the first day of creating the pieces.
Also to my extended friends and family. Fedine, Sabrina, Beechardie, Mandi & Favour. Always supporting & giving great insight & feedback.
