We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Sanchez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelia, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My work life balance has definitely changed over the years. I used to think that the working hard aspect of life, the “grinding aspect” was what really made people successful. With time, I have learned that resting is just as important.
Hard work is great, but it isn’t as impactful unless it is followed up by adequate rest. Lately, for me this balance looks like waking up early to exercise and move my body, clocking into my businesses for hours 5-8 hours of work, and fully clocking out afterwards.
It’s easy for me to keep working hours on end, into my evening and night. But, I know that his leaves me exhausted and disinterested in my tasks the next day. I find myself able to focus better now that I don’t consume all of my waking hours with my business, and I appreciate the fun times I get to spend with my loved ones even more.
Before, resting made me feel lazy, now resting helps me feel more fulfilled and productive.
Afterwards, I clock out of my business and give myself the time freedom to enjoy my family, my friends and importantly, myself. I’ll go out to dinner, take a bath, or go on a fun adventure to get out of the house.
for my in my business, this balance looks like waking up early to exercise and focus on the health of my body. I then clock into my business for a “work day”
What should our readers know about your business?
Honored Roots is an all natural skincare company, providing simple and effective products for sensitive skin. Each product in the Honored Roots skincare line is made with 100% organic ingredients and is fragrance oil free. Products are scented only with therapeutic grade essential oils or dried herbs.
I am most proud of this fragrance oil free brand because I myself have allergies to fragrance oils. After years of battling skin irritation, I am so proud to have an organic fragrance oil free brand, that still smells divine and won’t leave me itchy all over!
I am also so excited to announce that Honored Roots Co. products can now be found in stores here in Orlando, Fl at East End Market!
Getting to where I am today certainly was not easy, but when I compare it to what I could have been doing instead, I would still pick Honored Roots. A bad day with my business is better than any bad day I’ve ever had working for another company.
I’ve overcome the challenges along the way with action. If something goes wrong, then I take the actions I can to fix it. The less time I spend trying to mend things that are un-mendable, the more time I have to focus on building the good. Not everything you try as an entrepreneur is going to work, but you aren’t going to know that unless you give yourself the opportunity to try it. When you try and it doesn’t work, don’t spend time thinking of “what-if” think “what-next” instead. This keeps you moving forwards.
Once that clicked for me, man it was smoother sailing.
I’d love the world to know that Honored Roots Co. is here to stay and that simple, effective and affordable skincare still exists. I want you to know that you can feel more comfortable than ever in your skin and that I would love to help you do so.
I hope that Honored Roots and I can inspire someone to feel more at peace inside their bodies, and to follow their dreams, today and every day.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man! As an Orlando native, I love this question!
Well, you cant come to Orlando and not head out to College Park for brunch on a weekend day. A day in College Park would consist of White Wolf Cafe for brunch, and a stroll through the local thrift and vintage stores. We would have to stop at Washburn Imports, an antique furniture store which also turns into a bar called the Imperial Wine Bar! Nights in the garden there are amazing because you get to sip a fine beverage and lounge on elaborate antique and handmade furniture.
We’d probably need to play some pool in on of the open patio bars next door and end the night off with desert at Better Than Sex.
On another day we would explore the Mills 50 district and all the amazing asian eats and craft cocktails that the areas has to offer before saving a day to head to the beach mid week. Theres nothing better than taking the short 35 minute drive out to Cocoa Beach on a weekday for a simple and relaxing time.
A Thursday afternoon in Winter Park strolling through the beautiful shops of Park Avenue would probably be a great addition towards the end of the week with a nice wine tasting at The Wine Barn to conclude the evening.
Of course, us natives can usually skip the theme parks, but there’s no way a visitor can. Honestly, we probably wouldn’t let you! A fun day In Epcot and another park of choice would probably set the weekend off quite nicely while concluding the evening at the I drive Orlando Eye for a night time view of the city.
There are so many things to do here in Orlando that the list could get super long, but I cant leave out an awesome chance to paddle board and kayak. Wekiwa Island is a great time in nature and paddle boarding through lake Ivanhoe or near UCF is so relaxing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give my shout-out to my amazingly supportive significant other, Kevin Melendez. For me, the biggest form of motivation comes from those that truly believe in you. Usually, more than you happen to believe in yourself. I couldn’t be more grateful for the confidence he has helped me to build in my business by helping me to build that confidence in myself and in my dreams.
One of the trickiest parts about being a creative, is feeling so vulnerable when sharing your art. This vulnerability can be very crippling, and even stifling if not addressed in healthy ways. Having someone in your corner that is willing to listen enough to allow you to freely make decisions, and love you enough to continue to motivate you if things don’t go as planned, is a really wonderful thing.
Kevin has taught me to think outside the box, and while I’ve had other great mentors, I wouldn’t have been receptive to any of them if I had not learned to think with a truly open mind.
