We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Rosenberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Whenever I am feeling leveled by something not going exactly my way, I think about Theodore Roosevelt’s quote: “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming…”

It reminds me that I must strive valiantly and dare greatly every day despite the obstacles.

What should our readers know about your business?
Before becoming a consultant working on the intersection of culture and purpose, I spent four years working with Friends of The Underline as their Chief Art and Advancement Officer. When I started at The Underline, it was just an idea from the genius founder to create a 10-mile public park under the Metrorail. Phase 1 has been open for two years and has had hundreds of programs, including one in partnership with Friends of Miami Animals Foundation to adopt pets. I helped lead fundraising, programming and public art for The Underline and still consult with them as well as other nonprofits, corporations and municipalities. I learned and continue to learn so much from Meg Daly, the founder.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Sunday brunch at Red Rooster Overtown with chanteuse Maryel Epps and a bowl of grits is a must. I always like to show folks Miami culture, so we would head to my favorite museums, PAMM and the Bass, to see their exhibitions. A concert at the Miami Beach Bandshell is a must to finish the night.

The next day, we would have a lazy morning at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden admiring butterflies before heading to the Rubell Collection for more incredible art and dinner at Walrus Rodeo for roasted oysters, carrot tartare (trust me) and smores. A starry stroll on The Underline to see the work of artists Typoe, Hank Willis Thomas and Cara Despain would finish the evening.

The next morning, we would get our deli on at Mo’s Bagels in Aventura and then head to Hialeah to create a rug or a unique piece of pottery at the adorable Artisan Playhouse. We’d probably hit up Red, White and Blue, a famous thrift shop and grab some Cuban food along the way.

If there was time the next day, we would take a car ride to Homestead to see Paradise Farms, an incredible regenerative farm with lovely tropical fruits. We’d participate in a relaxing herbal ceremony, take a dip in the plunge pool, and eat a few lychees directly from the trees.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have had the good fortune of being in the orbit of brilliant women like Ruth Shack, Meg Daly, Patrice Gillespie Smith, Cathy Leff, Rebecca Mandelman, Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, Dejha Carrington, Yolanda Berkowitz, and Rosie Gordon Wallace. Seeing these women in loving action has been hugely inspirational for me.
