Meet Eduardo Balerdi | Musician, guitar player, composer and sound designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Eduardo Balerdi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Eduardo, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued an artistic career because I felt it was in my essence. When I was a child I liked to study many different things, and I still do! but music is my life. I would be totally lost without it as central. I was studying Psychology in the University. I had been in front of this Piaget article with a bald head in the center of the page for hours. I read it again and again and somehow I could not retain a single word or concept, I could not give it any meaning. Hours went by until it was time for me to go to a rehearsal with my band. I never went back to Psychology. I always felt that my artistic career started in that afternoon.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a musician. I believe that music is an art form and shouldn’t’t be constrained to 3 minutes of pop glory with a hook. I am proud of my past achievements, like having composed tons of music and sound designs for MTV, Nickelodeon, Medialuna TV and others and I am excited at the never ending possibilities that my band UOM offers regarding shape, colors and harmony expansions.
I played in many bands, taught a lot of music lessons and always maintained the idea that it is better to keep being who you are than to sell out.
I remember a music producer asking me to bring him music that the market wanted to listen to, not what I had offered him.
I rejected that notion, and I am still here, giving to whoever wants to listen the best music that I can offer
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, I would drive him or her north, to Chrystal River in Florida for kayaking and then to the mountains in North Carolina to enjoy the silence.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very thankful to my teachers, specially to Eduardo Criscuolo, a fabulous musician, my mentor, who as teenager taught me how to be unique and open minded and introduced me to classical music and rock, and to Alejandro Moro & Marta Bellomo, two outstanding Argentinian jazz musicians who gave me an amazing foundation in jazz.
